Football fans on social media were left divided after Cristiano Ronaldo changed his opinion on the FIFA World Cup following Lionel Messi and Argentina's win in 2022. Many believe the Portuguese superstar was right to say that the World Cup wouldn't define his career, while others thought he had changed his mind after Argentina won it.

After the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Ronaldo said that his biggest dream of winning the tournament had come to an end. The forward added that he was fighting hard to fulfill the dream and posted on Instagram:

"Winning a World Cup for Portugal was the biggest and most ambitious dream of my career. Fortunately, I won many international titles, including for Portugal, but placing our country's name at the highest level in the world was my greatest dream.

"I fought for it. I fought hard for that dream. In the 5 World Cup appearances I made over 16 years, always alongside great players and supported by millions of Portuguese people, I gave my all. I left everything on the field. I never shied away from the fight and never gave up on that dream. Unfortunately, yesterday the dream ended."

However, his opinion has changed, and the Al-Nassr captain has now claimed in an interview with Piers Morgan that he does not dream about winning the World Cup. He said:

"If you ask me, Cristiano, is it a dream to win the World Cup? No, it's not a dream. Define what? To define if I'm one of the best of the history, to win one competition, [of] six games, seven games. You think it's fair?"

The thing is winning the world cup will just be like icing on the cake for him but the lack of it in his cabinet won't remove or reduce his standing among the greatest to ever grace the game. He's still and will always be the greatest player in the history of football alongside

He is right. If you needed one of them to win the World Cup to decide who the best player itw is after all those years 😭 I think most people know Messi is the better player but they like Ronaldo more. Nothing wrong with that. Just weird to switch up like that from Ronaldo tho
