Nick Woltemade has revealed that he spoke to Liverpool star Florian Wirtz about his form during the international break. He dismissed criticism about his compatriot and asserted that he will perform well in the Premier League.
The Reds signed Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a massive fee of £116.5 million in the summer. However, he's failed to make a big impact, recording just four assists in 18 games across competitions. He hasn't scored a goal and provided just one assist in 13 Premier League games.
Meanwhile, Nick Woltemade also moved to the Premier League in the summer, joining Newcastle United from VfB Stuttgart for £69 million. He's scored seven goals and provided one assist in 18 games across competitions for the Magpies. In an interview with German outlet Stern, he defended Liverpool star Florian Wirtz, saying:
"We spoke briefly about it when we met up with the national team. I find this debate surrounding Flo absurd. It's a pseudo-discussion. Anyone who understands anything about football can see what incredible abilities he has. Flo will make his way, even in the Premier League."
Woltemade and Wirtz have shared the pitch eight times for Germany.

Germany and Leeds United star Lukas Nmecha also shared his thoughts on Florian Wirtz's start to the Premier League. He compared it with Leeds, who were promoted this season, but are 17th in the standings after 14 games.
Liverpool are set to face Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday, December 6. Ahead of the game, Nmecha told Sky Germany:
"I think a lot of people thought that after this transfer they might even win the league after last season, but it just shows the strength of the league. Players have to fit in with the teams. Adapting is always a challenge. We all know, for example, how good Flo is. He just needs a little time to adapt.
"I think that's completely normal. But we're (Leeds) also new to the league; we all have to adapt. Sometimes that takes a few games, and I think we're slowly getting there. And hopefully, the points will follow."
Nmecha added:
"Every now and then, I send a message (to Wirtz), but he's a good guy. I also have a few friends, Jeremie (Frimpong) in Liverpool, with whom I was at City. I asked him how he was doing and all that, but yeah, I think that's just the league. It's very different from German football. But he definitely has the quality. You can see that. Even when he plays for the national team. That kind of thing will work in any league."
Liverpool, notably, has just one win in their last five games, and hence, the clash against Leeds United is crucial for the ninth-placed side.
