Former players Gary Lineker and Micah Richards waxed lyrical about new Manchester United midfielder Bryan Mbuemo's performance in the 4-2 Premier League home win over Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend.

Matheus Cunha and Casemiro strikes had put the Red Devils on course for comfortable win as they led at the break. Mbuemo made it 3-0 just past the hour mark before Brighton threatened an unlikely comeback, scoring their second in stoppage time.

However, Mbuemo restored United's two-goal cushion three minutes later to make it three league wins out of three for Ruben Amorim's side to climb up to sixth in the standings, a point above stuttering defending champions Liverpool.

On the Rest is Football podcast (via United in Focus), Richards said.

"Mbeumo, give him time and space, he’s going to hurt you. And I thought he played really well as well."

Lineker added:

“He’s really good, Mbeumo. “I mean, he’s also, I suppose, the question mark again, someone that’s done consistently well at a club like Brentford – with all due respect – is to then jump to one of the giants in world football and be able to handle it. And he clearly can. It’s not fazed him in the slightest."

Mbuemo, 26, has scored four times and delivered an assist in nine Premier League games this season and has also scored once in as many EFL Cup outings.

Manchester United are beginning to find their mojo under Ruben Amorim after an indifferent start to the campaign. Having won 2-0 at holders Liverpool following a2-0 home win over Sunderland, the Red Devils registered their first pair of consecutive league wins under their current boss.

Following the Brighton win, the 13-time Premier League champions are six points behind leaders Arsenal. Amorim's side next take on Nottingham Forest away in the league on Saturday (November 1).

With no European commitments this season and an early EFL Cup exit, the Red Devils have only the league to contend for at the moment. Following the trip to Nottingham, they next take on Tottenham Hotspur away a week later.
