Manchester United legend Patrice Evra has revealed what he considers to be the problem with club captain Bruno Fernandes despite his incredible numbers. The Portugal international struck twice for the Red Devils in their most recent game, a 4-1 win over Wolves on Monday.

Evra spoke with Stake.com about his former club, pointing out that Bruno's numbers hide a fundamental flaw in his game. He shared that the midfielder often does too much on the pitch and runs everywhere, indicating a lack of positional discipline. He also admitted that the Portugal international is the main game-changer for the club.

"It’s always sensitive to talk about Bruno. It depends what people call a real captain. With a captain, sometimes you can have someone like Roy Keane or a different one. Bruno is giving assists and scoring goals, this has never been the issue. The issue for me is for him to control the team and the tempo when he gets the ball.

"You couldn't tell me where he's playing because he's everywhere. So sometimes maybe as a captain, you want to do extra, you want to do too much. And at the end, you're not even at your right position. But United wouldn't be where they are in the table if Bruno wasn't playing", he said (via GOAL).

Bruno Fernandes has come in for severe criticism over the years due to his perceived lack of a captain's behaviour at Old Trafford. The experienced midfielder has been at the club since 2020, and has been one of the best players in England's top-flight.

This season, Fernandes has scored four goals and provided five assists in only 15 appearances in the Premier League. The 31-year-old midfielder has been deployed in a deeper midfield role by coach Ruben Amorim, and he has managed to continue to rack up impressive goals and assists for the club.
