Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Arne Slot has one week to save his job at Anfield, after losing nine of his last 12 games in all competitions. The Englishman pointed fingers at the club's hierarchy as well, saying that they have created an unbalanced squad despite spending big.
Writing in his Telegraph column, Carragher said that Slot needs to go unbeaten in the next three games, while winning at least two of them to keep his job at Liverpool. He admitted that the club do not sack managers who have won titles, but the situation has changed.
The Reds legend added that the standards have dropped and wrote:
"Arne Slot has a week to save his job. It is hard to believe that sentence is being written, but Liverpool’s next three games are against West Ham United, Sunderland and Leeds United. Anything fewer than seven points will make an already unacceptable situation untenable. No matter how much goodwill the manager has, L'pool Football Club cannot sustain the drop in standards witnessed over the past three months."
Carragher also questioned the club's transfer decisions, pointing the finger at the hierarchy for not spending wisely. He added:
"Since the start of this season, Slot has seemed intent on taking the team in a direction which is not in L'pool winning tradition. It felt wrong on day one of this season, and it has led to a mess right now. Questions will also be asked of those above Slot."
"It is incredible that L'pool have since spent £450m to create an unbalanced squad, lacking enough cover on the wings and at centre-back. After selling Diaz, L'pool have come into this season without genuine competition for Salah and Cody Gakpo. It’s all well and good asking for one or both to be left out, but who replaces them?"
Liverpool face West Ham United, Sunderland, and Leeds United in the next nine days. They sit 12th in the Premier League table, 11 points behind leaders Arsenal after 12 games.
Jamie Carragher claims Liverpool dropped form since parties started
Jamie Carragher has slammed Liverpool's decision to host parties in Dubai and Ibiza before the previous season ended. He claimed that the Premier League title-winning celebrations should have been done after the season and wrote:
"No one wants to sound like a killjoy, but the time to arrange parties in Ibiza and Dubai was after the final game against Crystal Palace, not before. It may have seemed good fun seeing all the party videos and photographs on social media, but as the team failed to win any of their final four games, losing twice, accusations of it being a bad look had merit."
Liverpool are 13th in the UEFA Champions League, with nine points from their opening five matches.
