Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus has informed the club that he is not looking to leave in a defiant message following his return. The Brazil international has only just returned from a year-long layoff following an ACL injury in January.
Jesus addressed rumours of a possible Emirates exit during his interview with The Players Tribune. He revealed that he has been advised to move elsewhere, but he intends to stay back and win trophies with the Gunners, and would do so in any role.
“I feel that I have unfinished business at Arsenal. I don’t want to leave. People have asked, ‘Why don’t you just leave? Why don’t you go to Saudi? Or back home to Brazil?’ One day, I would love for everything to come full circle with Palmeiras, but not today.
"When I came here to join Mikel, my purpose was not only to score goals. My purpose was to win titles. When I came to the Premier League, I think most people’s reaction was, ‘Oh? Who is this kid?’ They looked at me as a pure goalscorer. But that’s not how I see myself. My strongest trait is that I will do whatever it takes to help the team win titles. "
At City, I played many roles. I shared the goal-scoring load sometimes, other times I played out on the wing, and other times I used my physicality to link up play. I don’t always need to be the number nine to help the team. I am not still here for the weather. I am here to make history", he said (via GOAL).
Gabriel Jesus had just begun to find his feet again, with six goals in seven games before his injury in January. He made his return to action for Arsenal against Club Brugge, and forced an own goal from Yerson Mosquera to help his side defeat Wolves last weekend.
Mikel Arteta has signed Viktor Gyokeres to carry the majority of his side's goalscoring burden, but also has Kai Havertz and Mikel Merino as options to lead the line. Though undoubtedly talented, Jesus has a big battle on his hands to keep his place in the Gunners squad.
Arsenal dealt blow as star suffers setback: Reports
Arsenal have suffered another blow as forward Kai Havertz has suffered a minor setback in his recovery, as per reports. The Germany international has been out of action since August, when he first injured his knee.
A report from The Daily Mail has stated that Havertz, who was one week away from a return to action, suffered a setback at the back end of November. The 26-year-old is now expected to be sidelined until mid-January, at the earliest.
The former Chelsea man last played a game on August 17th, against Manchester United on the opening weekend of the season. He has been plagued with injuries in recent times, having also missed most of the second half of the 2024-25 season with a hamstring problem.
