CBS Sports have revealed an expletive-laden footage of Jamie Carragher calling for the sacking of Liverpool boss Arne Slot during the match against PSV Eindhoven. The pundit appeared to have been irked by the continued inclusion of Ibrahima Konate in the XI this season after yet another mistake.
Konate misjudged the bounce of the ball, allowing it to pass under his foot and setting Couhaib Driouech free to score a third goal for the Dutch outfit. Carragher was incensed as he made a phone call off-air, complaining about the role of the France international in giving up the goal. In the clip released on the Facebook page of CBS, Carragher asked that Slot be sacked for sticking with Konate.
"Oh my God, Konate. Oh my God, Konate. Watch Konate, here. Oh my God. I've f*****g had enough of them, honest to God, that Konate. I mean, that's a sackable offence for the manager, he keeps picking him. He should be sacked for that. Have they scored again, 4-1. What's this, 9 in 12?", he said (via Mirror Football).
Ibrahima Konate appeared to take his eye off the ball for a second, leading to PSV's third goal of the night in the 73rd minute. The former RB Leipzig man has come in for heavy criticism this season, with a section of the club's fans having questioned his inclusion in the starting XI against PSV.
Liverpool tried and failed to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi to add quality to their backline in the summer, instead signing 18-year-old Giovanni Leoni. Leoni ruptured his ACL on his first start for the club, leaving them with Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and Joe Gomez as their senior centre-backs.
Konate has been linked with a move away from the club, while Guehi continues to be linked with the club. The 26-year-old Frenchman was hauled off in the 76th minute, with Federico Chiesa taking his place on the pitch.
Liverpool dealt injury blow in crushing PSV defeat
Liverpool suffered another injury blow during their 4-1 humbling at the hands of PSV Eindhoven at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League. The Reds lost striker Hugo Ekitike to a problem in the second half, further deepening their woes.
Ekitike was restored to the starting XI for the game against PSV in one of only two changes to the Liverpool team that lost to Nottingham Forest last Saturday. The France international played for 61 minutes before he had to come off, with Alexander Isak taking his place on the pitch.
Hugo Ekitike has enjoyed a decent start to life at Anfield, scoring six goals in 18 appearances across all competitions for the club. The 23-year-old joins fellow summer additions Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Giovanni Leoni on the sidelines for Slot's struggling side.
