Former Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger wants Bayern Munich to sign Red Devils target Angelo Stiller. Stiller came through the ranks at Bayern but only made three appearances for the senior team before joining Hoffenheim as a free agent in 2021.
The 24-year-old spent two seasons at Hoffenheim and then signed for Stuttgart, where he currently plies his trade and has established himself as a first-team regular. Stiller’s performances with Stuttgart haven’t gone unnoticed, with reports suggesting that Manchester United have added him to their six-man shortlist of midfield targets for next summer.
In addition to Manchester United, there have also been reports from Germany that the midfielder has been linked with a move to Real Madrid. Amid the rumors of a possible exit from Stuttgart, Schweinsteiger would like to see Stiller return to the club where he started his career.
“Angelo is a very interesting player. I would very much like to see him back at Bayern Munich,” Schweinsteiger said during a recent event with the Kings League.
Stiller himself has fueled the rumors of a departure from his current club, admitting in an interview with Bild that he’d love to play abroad at some point. He was quoted as saying:
“I'm interested in moving abroad at some point. I thought Florian Wirtz's decision to go to Liverpool was cool. But only one thing is certain for me: at the end of my career, I absolutely want to play in the USA.”
According to Sky Germany, Stuttgart values Stiller in the region of €50 million (£44 million), although his current market value stands at €45 million, as per Transfermarkt.
“He has a contract with us” – Fabian Wohlgemuth on Angelo Stiller’s future amid links to Manchester United and other European clubs
Amid rumors of an exit, Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth downplayed any potential departure of Angelo Stilller, saying that he is still contracted with the club. Stiller’s current deal with Stuttgart will expire in 2028, having signed an extension in 2023.
"He has a contract with us," Wohlgemuth said via Mirror. “It's far too early to speculate about that. Of course, one or two clubs will have had their eye on him. He's having an outstanding season. Maybe he'll even play in a World Cup, we'll see. We're happy he's with us. That's part of the entertainment we have to cover. But there's nothing concrete. He can concentrate fully on VfB Stuttgart."
Stiller has made 19 appearances for Stuttgart this season and has scored one goal and provided six assists.
