LaLiga side Atletico Madrid's president, Enrique Cerezo, has shut down rumors linking star striker Julian Alvarez to Barcelona this summer. The Argentine striker is considered among the best attackers in the world today.

Multiple reports suggest that Barcelona are hunting the market for a new striker, amid the potential departure of Robert Lewandowski. The Pole superstar's contract ends in June 2026 and is less likely to be renewed. While Ferran Torres is still considered Lewandowski's replacement, Barca are looking to bring in a stronger option to cover the position. Julian Alvarez is reportedly one of their key targets, although Atletico Madrid's recent stance on a potential transfer complicates things.

In a recent press interaction, as quoted via Mundo Deportivo, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo weighed in on the recent transfer rumors surrounding Julian Alvarez. Speaking of Barcelona's reported interest, he said:

"Julian Alvarez is an Atleti player and will remain an Atleti player, I have no doubt about it."

Alvarez's current contract with Los Colchoneros runs until June 2030 with a reported release clause of €500 million. The 25-year-old Argentine is a key part of coach Diego Simeone's project and has been consistent in his performances. In 72 outings for the Spanish side across competitions, Alvarez recorded 38 goals and 12 assists.

In an interview with L'Equipe, Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez was asked about being linked to Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The Argentine did not disregard any scenario, and said (via GOAL):

"Do I plan on playing at Barca or at PSG? Honestly, I don’t know. I see what people say on social media. In Spain, people speak a lot about me and Barcelona. For now, I am focused on Atletico and we will review at the end of the season."

With Atleti having spent a reported €75 million to secure Julian Alvarez from Manchester City in 2024, it is unlikely that they'll let him go so easily. Apart from Alvarez, the Catalans are also reportedly interested in Bayern Munich superstar Harry Kane and Dortmund star Serhou Guirassy.

Moreover, Erling Haaland also remains a dream target, although his signing could be complicated due to the financial constraints. Meanwhile, Kane and Guirassy are also expensive options, and could only materialize if Barca's well-known economic issues are sorted.

As of now, Ferran Torres remains the primary replacement for Robert Lewandowski under Hansi Flick. The Catalans will continue to search the market for a viable alternative, while reinforcements are also needed in their defense, especially after Inigo Martinez's departure last summer.
