Former Arsenal forward Theo Walcott has lambasted Viktor Gyokeres for not being dominant in the opposition box during the Gunners' recent 1-1 league stalemate at Chelsea.
Earlier this Sunday (November 30), Mikel Arteta's outfit recorded their third draw of the season at Stamford Bridge. After Trevoh Chalobah scored the opening goal for the 10-men Blues in the 48th minute, Mikel Merino restored parity 11 minutes later.
Arsenal, who relished 62% possession against Chelsea, had a golden opportunity to win the match in the final moments. Jurrien Timber failed to score the winner as he headed Piero Hincapie's left-footed cross wide with Gyokeres lurking inside the box.
After the Gunners' recent 1-1 Premier League draw, Walcott was asked to offer his two cents on Gyokeres failing to get on the end of Hincapie's cross. He responded to Sky Sports (h/t Metro):
"This is when you get desperate towards the end of games and you want to commit loads of bodies forward. You always feel though if a right-back is in this position, I'd be asking questions if I was Gyokeres here and saying, 'Look this is my space, this is why I'm on the pitch'."
Walcott, who represented the Gunners from 2006 to 2018, commented:
"But look, he's been doing it all season but he'd be disappointed. Gyokeres would have been calling it no doubt but it just annoys me when players are out of position but I understand why Arsenal committed so many bodies. Gyokeres is too nice sometimes, I think."
Following his potential £63.5 million switch from Sporting CP, Gyokeres has scored six goals in 15 appearances across all competitions for the north London outfit.
Arsenal legend hits out at Chelsea ace
While discussing Mikel Merino's equalising goal in the 59th minute of the clash, Ian Wright claimed Chelsea star Wesley Fofana should have done better to stop it. He told Premier League Productions (h/t Metro):
"Fofana as the central defender, he leaves him. He's now ball watching and he's hoping the ball doesn't get put in a good position instead of making sure he's back another yard. Because with another yard, Fofana is maybe able to flick it away. But great movement from Merino arriving in the box, that's what he does so well."
Fofana, 24, completed 31 of his 34 passes, won seven of his 10 overall duels, and made 11 clearances for Chelsea in the Premier League clash against their rivals.
Merino, on the other hand, scored his second league goal earlier this Sunday.
