Former Liverpool star Michael Owen has sent a message to Mohamed Salah after his explosive comments about the club and manager Arne Slot. The Englishman said he understood the feeling but that public comments were not needed, as he should be focused on AFCON.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Owen praised Salah for carrying Liverpool for multiple seasons, but reminded the Egyptian that it was a team sport and he should not be thinking about himself. He added that forward should have gone for AFCON next week and cooled down before making comments and posted:

"Oh @mosalah 🫣 I can imagine how you feel. You’ve carried this team for a long time and won everything there is to win. But this is a team game and you simply can’t publicly say what you’ve said. You’re going to afcon in a week. Surely you bite your lip, enjoy representing your country and see how the land lies when you get back?"

Salah spoke to the journalists in the mixed zone after the 3-3 draw at Leeds United, saying that the club were putting all the blame on him. He said:

"I have done so much for this club over the years, especially last season. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. Someone wants me to get all the blame!"

Mohamed Salah has played just 45 minutes in the last three Premier League matches.

Mohamed Salah slammed Liverpool manager Arne Slot

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah admitted that he has no relationship with manager Arne Slot, saying that the Dutchman is throwing him under the bus. He added that there are people at the club who want him out and said (via The Sportzine):

"I used to have a good relationship (with manager Slot). Now we don’t have any relationship and I don't know why. It seems like someone does not want me in the club. It’s not acceptable to me to be fair. If I was somewhere else, every club would protect its players."

"Now, it’s 'Throw Mo under the bus because he is a problem in a team'. I don’t think I am a problem. I am not fighting for my position every day because I have earned it. I am not bigger than the club. I am not bigger than anything. But I have earned it."

Mohamed Salah signed a new deal earlier this year, despite interest from the Saudi Pro League.
