Former Premier League player Danny Murphy would pick Liverpool's Mohamed Salah over Arsenal's Bukayo Saka for the former's knack of scoring goals from any position.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Murphy said that he would like to have Salah on his side over Saka despite the Liverpool star's poor start to the season. He believes that the Arsenal star is a good player, but the 33-year-old's ability to score from multiple positions on the pitch tilts the balance in his favor. He said (via Metro):

"I’d probably just still go with Salah because he can score goals from anywhere. You know, he’s just got this knack of scoring unbelievable goals more regularly."

Continuing to talk about Salah, Murphy believes that Arne Slot needs to tell the Liverpool star to drop back and help defensively. He added that the winger should not be staying up top like he did last season and said:

"Giving Salah the license to not defend against a left-back who loves going forward and isn’t even a left-back in [Nico] O’Reilly, who has been brilliant recently, I couldn’t believe what I was watching to be honest. I don’t know how he (Slot) can keep watching the same thing and not change it. And it’s not like Salah can’t do the running, he hasn’t asked him to see if he can.

"He doesn’t have to do it every single time, but he has spent so long not doing it. Last season, Salah came out and said he was enjoying it more because he doesn’t have to defend as much as he did with Klopp. But it’s just time and time again, and I don’t think he needs to be dropped because he’s such a threat, but I think you’ve got to tell him to defend."

Saka has scored three goals this season for Arsenal in nine Premier League matches. Salah has four goals in 11 games, along with two assists.

Danny Murphy claims Arsenal star is more important than Bukayo Saka

Danny Murphy believes midfielder Declan Rice is more important for Arsenal than Bukayo Saka. He admitted that the winger is essential for Mikel Arteta's tactics, but added that the former West Ham United star has a more significant role.

He said on talkSPORT:

“Saka is really important, but Rice is the one because they’ve got nobody else like him. They’ve got other good midfielders, but they’ve got no one like Rice.”

Arsenal are on top of the Premier League table after 11 matches, four points clear of second-placed Manchester City.
