Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has delivered his verdict on Harry Maguire's future following the signing of Leny Yoro. The ex-England centre-back believes his compatriot still has a role at the club but his desire to play every week could prove to be a headache.

After managing to pull off an impressive bounce-back last season, Maguire's future is back in the spotlight. This time, because of the signing of Yoro, who arrived at Old Trafford from Lille this summer.

The England defender will now face more competition for a spot at the heart of the defense but Wes Brown believes there's still a place for him in the squad, although he isn't sure about his consistent involvement.

“Of course there’s still a place for him,” the former Manchester United defender told ManchesterWorld. “And even last season you wouldn’t have expected him to play that many games, but with injuries he came in and handled things very professionally and got on with the job."

"That’s the sort of player you need. But, it’s whether Harry will be happy enough to do it again - you don’t know. He would have gone to the Euros had he been fit. He’s a high-class player who will want to play every week.”

Brown went on to add that a good pre-season is all Harry Maguire needs to get himself on track.

“A full pre-season will give him a good base,” he continued. “Pre-season is very important; you don’t understand that until you’re a bit older. With Harry not going to the Euros it looks like he’s going to be fit [for the new season]. If he doesn’t pick up anything in the next week or two his pre-season should be excellent and he’ll be raring to go.”

Manchester United completed the signing of Leny Yoro from Lille last week in a deal worth £50 million, according to the Daily Mail. The 18-year-old signed a contract with the club until the summer of 2029. He will wear the No. 15 shirt, the Red Devils have confirmed on their official website.

Harry Maguire's numbers for Manchester United last season

Following years of struggles at Old Trafford, Harry Maguire bounced back in style last season and became one of the most reliable players in the team with commendable displays at the heart of the defense week after week.

The Englishman played 31 games for Manchester United across all competitions during the campaign, amassing a total of 2,310 minutes of playing time. He also contributed four goals and two assists.

Given his level of performance recently and his importance to the team at the moment, it's unlikely Erik ten Hag will discard him anytime soon. Only time will reveal what plans the manager has in store for the 31-year-old after getting Leny Yoro.
