Former Premier League manager Tim Sherwood has urged Marc Guehi to snub Arsenal and join Liverpool. He believes that the Crystal Palace star will not be starting ahead of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes under Mikel Arteta.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Sherwood argued that Guehi has a free route into the first team at Liverpool and Manchester City, but not Arsenal. He does not see any reason why the Englishman should pick the Gunners if he wants to play regularly and said:

“From Marc Guehi’s view, why would he go to Arsenal? He’s not going to play if Saliba and Gabriel are fit, he would never get in the team. I think he’s a decent player, but I don’t think he’s the quality of those two centre-backs."

"I think there’s more a route into the first-team of Man City, and certainly Liverpool, which is the obvious choice. So, don’t make any sense from Arsenal Football Club, and certainly for Marc Guehi’s point of view, it makes no sense whatsoever.”

The Athletic have reported that Arsenal are interested in the former Chelsea defender, but are looking to lure him on a free transfer in the summer. Manchester City are open to signing him this month, following injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol.

Liverpool had a £25 million deal to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, but the London side pulled the plug on it in the final hours of Deadline Day after failing to find a replacement. Arne Slot confirmed that the Reds were close to signing the defender and said (via GOAL):

"It would be a bit ridiculous to deny that we were close to signing Guehi. That is so out in the open. But these things happen. It probably happened to our players where they were close to signing for other clubs and then things change in the last moment."

"We would have liked to sign him, of course. If we feel we can strengthen the team, we never hesitate to do so, and that is what we tried to do. It is a pity for us and the player but he is in a good place at Palace, where he won the FA Cup and Community Shield. Let’s see what the future brings for him and us."

Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Tottenham are also reported to be interested in signing Marc Guehi in the summer.
