"I remember (Cristiano) Ronaldo came in after he signed and he was doing everything, tricks and I thought you don't mind that as a young lad. But then he started diving and diving, and it was embarrassing for a team that had people like Keane, Robson, all this history. Solid team that, we don't mess about. If you want to outplay us we'll outbeat you, if you want to out fight us, we'll try to out fight you. It wasn't just possession football. And he started diving and we had one training session. I think he got taken out seven or eight times by Roy, Scholesy, me, Giggsy. They were going through him and he was nearly crying, and basically it was like 'You can't do that, don't be doing that at this football club, you don't do this in this country, we've got standards. You don't dive, you can't dive'. And to be fair to Ronaldo, he took it on board", he said (via @FootyAccums on X).

Cristiano Ronaldo joined Manchester United in 2003 and spent one year with Nicky Butt as teammates before the older midfielder moved to Newcastle United. The former midfielder was a member of the famed Class of '92 alongside the likes of Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, and Gary Neville.

Ronaldo took the lessons he learned from the club's iconic players on board and quickly rose to become one of the world's best players within a few years. He left the Red Devils for a then-world record fee to move to Real Madrid in 2009, having won the Ballon d'Or a year prior.

Haaland has surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo tally for Manchester United

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has surpassed the numbers achieved by five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo in his time in English football. The Norwegian striker found the net twice for his side as they overcame Crystal Palace 3-0 in the Premier League last weekend.

Haaland has now scored 146 goals for the Cityzens in only 168 appearances across all competitions since arriving in 2022. His tally has eclipsed that of Cristiano Ronaldo, who found the net 145 times in 346 appearances for Manchester United across two spells.

Ronaldo started out as a wide midfielder before transitioning into an adept goalscorer in the latter stages of his first stint at Manchester United. He then returned to the club in 2021 aged 36 to lead the line, re-affirming his quality as one of the world's best of all-time.
