Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has made a bold claim about Benjamin Sesko while giving his assessment of the Manchester United forward. The Slovenian star joined the Red Devils in the summer but has struggled to live up to the billing.

In the bid to address their attacking issues, Manchester United spent over £200 million in the summer to rope in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Sesko, who reportedly cost the club £74 million.

While Cunha and Mbuemo have slowly settled into life at Old Trafford, Sesko has yet to find his feet at the Manchester club. The former RB Leipzig star has not shown the attacking flair that prompted the club to acquire his services, managing just two goals and an assist in 11 league matches.

Fowler was speaking on Adventure Gamers and gave his verdict on Sesko's performance since joining Ruben Amorim's side. Comparing the 22-year-old to Viktor Gyokeres, who joined Arsenal in the summer, the Liverpool legend opined that the Swede looks better suited for the Premier League than Sesko.

He insisted that although the Manchester United forward has the qualities, he has been lethargic and looks like an academy player.

"For me, I think the obvious one is Gyokeres. He's probably better suited to the Premier League and he understands what is needed in terms of speed, energy and commitment. Whereas Sesko has probably struggled a little at times," Fowler said (via GOAL).

"He looks a little bit, I hope this doesn't come across wrong, but he looks a bit of an academy player. I have no doubt he's a good player. No one's questioning his ability, but at the minute I think out of those two, it's Gyokeres by far who looks better equipped," he added.

Amroim is set to be without Sesko on his roster for about one month after the striker sustained a knee injury during United's 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur before the international break. The Red Devils next play Everton at Old Trafford on Monday, November 24.

Alan Shearer berates Manchester United for spending huge on Benjamin Sesko

Premier League legend Alan Shearer has slammed Manchester United for spending heavily on Benjamin Sesko amid his struggles at the club. Reacting to Sesko's slow start at the club, Shearer told Betfair (via GOAL):

"One player that must do better for United is Benjamin Sesko. They paid 70 odd million for him. That was a lot of money, I know it’s the market but it was too much. He’s had a tough start and I don’t expect huge things from him to be honest. I think he’s a good player but I’m not sure he’s any more than that. He should have scored a couple more goals than he has so far. It’s been a tough start for him, especially considering the money United paid."

Sesko was one of the highly courted strikers during the summer transfer window, with Liverpool and Newcastle United also showing interest in his services. The 22-year-old recorded 39 goals and eight assists in 87 matches across two seasons for RB Leipzig
