Clinton Morrison believes Cesc Fabregas will be a good replacement for Enzo Maresca at Chelsea. This comes amidst speculation about the Italian head coach's future at Stamford Bridge.
Maresca bemoaned a lack of support after the Blues' 2-0 win over Everton in the Premier League on December 13. While he didn't state who it was directed towards, he added that he loves the club's fans. Hence, many believe that his comments were towards the club's hierarchy, which could put his position under scrutiny.
Meanwhile, Clinton Morrison believes Cesc Fabregas could replace Enzo Maresca. He said on Sky Sports (h/t HITC):
“He’d be very good (Cesc Fabregas). He’s doing a great job at Como, and of course he used to play at Chelsea.”
Fabregas became FC Como's permanent head coach in 2024, and they finished 10th in Serie A after promotion. They currently sit seventh in the standings after 15 games, six points behind the Top 4.
Meanwhile, Fabregas has previously spoken about the Chelsea project under Todd Boehly's ownership, telling GOAL:
"They've invested big in young players and now, slowly, they're getting the grip of playing together after making mistakes. I always say that young players need to make mistakes but then be trusted to keep playing, to understand what a team is.
"You can only win what's in front of you, I know they were very superior to the rest of the clubs in the Conference League, but they were there and won. They took it seriously, it was a good season. Now they need to take a higher step next year."
Fabregas spent five years with the Blues as a player, recording 22 goals and 57 assists in 198 games, winning two Premier League titles, among other honors.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca reveals a lack of support from within the club
Chelsea's 2-0 win over Everton on December 13 brought an end to a four-game winless run across competitions. However, after the game, Enzo Maresca claimed that he faced the "worst 48 hours" during his time as the club's head coach. Without revealing the details, he said (h/t GOAL):
"This is the reason why I praise the players because with so many problems they are doing very well after a complicated week. Since I joined the club the last 48 hours has been the worst 48 hours since I joined the club because many people didn’t support us. So very happy for Malo (Gusto) in that moment that the effort from Malo and the rest showed that they are all there and want to help this club."
"Worst 48 hours since I joined the club because people didn’t support me and the team. In general. I love the fans, and I am very happy with the fans," he added.
Maresca was appointed Chelsea's manager in 2024. He helped them win the UEFA Europa Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup last season.
