Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez has heaped praise on defender Marc Cucurella ahead of their Arsenal clash. The Argentine hailed the Spaniard as a 'beast', adding that it was important for the club to have a player like him in the squad.
Speaking to the media after the win over Barcelona, Fernandez said that Cucurella is funny and always creates a good mood for the teammates. The Chelsea vice-captain added that the defender wants to improve himself and others at the club and said (via Metro):
"Obviously Marc is a beast. Having a team-mate like him around day-to-day is very special, he’s very funny and always in a good mood. Aside from that, he trains very well, always wants to improve and for us. It’s very important to have a defender of his quality."
Talking about the 3-0 win over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League, Fernandez added:
"The truth is that we’re delighted with the result. I think we put on a strong showing of our character, and as the minutes went by, we felt more and more comfortable in the match. After Ronald Araujo’s sending off, Barcelona had to be more compact, which gave us more space, and that was when we were able to find the two goals at just the right time."
"Their defensive line was very high. We knew the spaces were in behind, off the shoulder and we were able to find our striker in space many times. That was the plan the manager prepared us for during the week. We improved as the game went on, and we ended up with a 3-0 win, which is an excellent result."
Enzo Fernandez is the club's top scorer this season in all competitions with five goals. He had two goals disallowed in the win over Barcelona this week, one for handball by Wesley Fofana and the other as Trevoh Chalobah was offside.
Chelsea not thinking about Champions League glory, says Enzo Fernandez
Chelsea vice-captain Enzo Fernandez has insisted that the players are not getting carried away by their win over Barcelona. He admitted that they are delighted with the win, but do not see themselves are contenders for the trophy and said:
"We’re just taking it step by step. We don’t put ourselves in the position of a contender, even if we represent Chelsea, a really big club. We have a great team, and we’re taking it one step at a time."
Chelsea face Arsenal this weekend in the Premier League, before facing Leeds United and AFC Bournemouth next week.
