Real Madrid fans have expressed their frustrations towards the duo of Dani Ceballos and Brahim Diaz despite their 4-3 win over Olympiacos. The Spanish giants registered a first-ever win on Greek soil, with Kylian Mbappe scoring four times in the game to hand his side all three points.
Xabi Alonso's side headed to Athens on the back of a three-game winless run which included a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in their previous UEFA Champions League game. The Spanish giants sought a restoration of normal service, and they managed to overpower their Greek opponents despite a defiant showing from the home team.
Real Madrid fans were unhappy with the performances of midfielder Ceballos and forward Diaz, neither of whom started the game. A section of the club's fans took to X to voice out their frustrations towards the duo after the game.
A fan pointed out that both players should be sold at the earliest opportunity.
Another fan stated that both of them should never play for the club after this performance.
A fan advised that both players be sold by the club as soon as possible.
Another fan revealed their frustration at manager Alonso's choice of substitutions and begged Ceballos and Diaz to find new clubs in January.
A fan asked what the purpose of both players is on the pitch, labelling them as 'useless' substitutions.
Spain international Ceballos was introduced off the bench at halftime in place of Eduardo Camavinga, who appeared to have suffered an injury in the first period. He won two of six duels, was dribbled past twice, and made no tackles in the second half. He made three ball recoveries and completed 89% of his passes in the 45 minutes he played for.
Diaz replaced Raul Asencio in the 73rd minute as Alonso sought an attacking injection for the closing stages. The Moroccan forward touched the ball just five times, completing three passes, and failed to win any duels against Olympiacos.
Mbappe lifts Real Madrid past Olympiacos
Kylian Mbappe was the hero for Real Madrid once again as they ran out 4-3 winners against Greek giants Olympiacos. Los Blancos returned to winning ways in the UEFA Champions League, having lost away to Liverpool in their last match.
Olympiacos took the lead after eight minutes through Chiquinho before Mbappe scored a seven-minute hat-trick to turn the game around. The Frenchman equalised in the 22nd minute before putting his side ahead two minutes later, and completing his hat-trick in the 29th minute.
The Greek side did not go down without a fight and pulled one back through Mehdi Taremi in the 52nd minute before Mbappe netted his fourth eight minutes later. Ayoub El Kaabi headed home another goal for Olympiacos in the 81st minute to set up a tense finale, but Real Madrid held on to win.
Kylian Mbappe has now scored the second-quickest hat-trick in the history of the Champions League, only behind Mohamed Salah's treble against Rangers in 2022. The 26-year-old has now scored nine goals in the competition this season and is atop the goalscoring charts.
