"I’ve always said that I base my decisions on how I feel physically and mentally day to day. The truth is, I’ve felt really good this year. I’m happy living in Miami, and so is my family."

Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham was also thrilled to announce the renewal, and said:

"We brought the greatest player in history to our city. That shows our commitment to Miami, but also Leo’s commitment to the club, the fans, and to football."

Lionel Messi has maintained a great form this season, recording 39 goals and 19 assists in 44 outings across competitions for the Herons this season. He also won the MLS Golden Boot this season, having scored 29 goals in the league in 28 outings.

Last year, Messi won the MLS Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award after leading the Herons to their first Supporters' Shield title in history. The Argentine legend is a major favorite to bag the same this year.

Meanwhile, Messi is currently focused on leading the club to the MLS Cup after scoring a brace in their 3-1 win over Nashville in the first game of the best-of-three series in the playoffs. He missed out on leading the team last year, but has a fair chance of winning the same this time.
