Manchester City striker Erling Haaland thanked Premier League legend Alan Shearer for his ‘advice’ after becoming the fastest player in Premier League history to score a century of goals. The Norwegian achieved the feat in just 111 matches, 13 games fewer than Shearer, who reached the landmark in 124 matches.
Since joining City in 2022, Haaland has shattered several Premier League records. The 25-year-old hit the ground running in his debut season, breaking the record for the most goals scored in a single Premier League campaign, scoring 36 goals in 35 matches. His goal-scoring rate has only improved since that time, culminating in his latest achievement during City’s dramatic 5-4 win over Fulham on Tuesday, December 2.
Following his latest feat, Erling Haaland took to X (formerly Twitter) and posted a throwback picture of himself and Alan Shearer while also responding to the former Newcastle United striker’s congratulatory message on reaching 100 Premier League goals.
“Thanks for the advice back in 2022 - it paid off 😅,” he captioned the post.
Haaland is on course for the PL Golden Shoe as he leads the chart with 15 goals. He is also in the running for the European Golden Shoe, with only Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe ahead of him (16 goals).
“I’m super proud” – Erling Haaland on becoming the fastest player to score 100 Premier League goals
Erling Haaland couldn’t hide his happiness after joining the Premier League 100 club during Manchester City’s trip to Fulham. He opened the scoring in the 17th minute and also assisted Tijjani Reijnders for City’s second.
Speaking to Manchester City’s website, Haaland admitted he would remember the match for the rest of his life, saying:
“Of course, it means a lot. First of all, to score 100 goals in the Premier League for City is a thing of course I wanted to do when I came here. But this quickly, I didn't expect. Now it's happened, I'm super proud. It's a huge thing. I think after my career, when I look back at this it will be a huge moment this game and also a game I'll remember for the rest of my life.”
During a chat with reporters after the match, Haaland opened the room for chastisement, saying people ‘should criticize’ him if he doesn’t deliver the very best after his 100-goal haul.
