Donald Trump and FIFA supremo Infantino appear to have forged a solid relationship in recent months ahead of the World Cup. Infantino was recently photographed with Cristiano Ronaldo during his visit to Trump in his Oval Office, indicating his presence during the meeting.

President Trump has fully embraced the growth of football in the USA, and was famously at the MetLife Stadium in July for the final of the FIFA Club World Cup, which Chelsea won. The 79-year-old then made an appearance as the Blues captain Reece James hoisted the trophy, sparking confusion from the players.

Trump has received the inaugural edition of the Peace Prize and written his name into the history books, as a result. The 45th and 47th US president had openly campaigned for the Nobel Peace Prize earlier this year, but lost out to Maria Corina Machado.

Journalist Ben Jacobs asked Trump if he thinks the USA can emerge as champions next year, and the two-time president replied in the affirmative. He stated that he expects Mauricio Pochettino's team to get their chance in what will be a very competitive tournament.

“Well, I think so. I think they will have their chance. It’s going to be a very competitive tournament", he said (via bolavip.com).

The USMNT are ranked 14th in the world, and are unbeaten in their last five internationals, recording four wins and a draw. Led by the likes of Christian Pulisic and Folarin Balogun, the USA will fancy their chances of bettering their quarterfinal elimination from the 2002 edition of the Mundial.
