Declan Rice provided an injury update after Arsenal's 2-0 win over Brentford on Wednesday, December 3. The midfielder was taken off in the clash, as he appeared to suffer some discomfort.
The Gunners hosted Brentford at the Emirates in the Premier League on Wednesday. While they secured a comfortable 2-0 win, they faced two injury scares. Cristhian Mosquera was taken off in the 44th minute for Jurrien Timber. Declan Rice, meanwhile, went off for Viktor Gyokeres in the 83rd minute.
There has been speculation about Rice's potential injury. However, as per Metro, he told a reporter in the mix zone after the game that he was 'fine'. Meanwhile, Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta said in his post-match press conference:
"Obviously it’s never good news. Declan had to come off. We don’t know, we have to see tomorrow what he’s got."
Rice's potential injury could be a huge blow for the Gunners as he's been one of their best players this season. Arsenal signed him from West Ham United in 2023 for a reported fee of £105 million. He's since registered 18 goals and 26 assists in 124 games for them.
Mikel Arteta speaks about injuries in his squad after Arsenal's win over Brentford
The Gunners have dealt with numerous injury issues this season across the pitch. The likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, and Gabriel Magalhaes have all spent time out injured. They now appear to be facing two more injury concerns after the win over Brentford in the Premier League.
After the game, Mikel Arteta spoke about these injuries and said (h/t Arsenal.com):
"[Cristhian] Mosquera is the other one that is out, obviously we have big Gabi and Willy [Saliba] out as well. So we have to adapt, it's been a theme this season, but when I look at the players that haven't been playing much, for example Ben White, the performance that he had. Martin [Odegaard] has been out, and he puts 96 minutes under his belt straight away. Noni, the same, Viktor [Gyokeres] is coming and now he's getting some minutes as well. So I'm very pleased to see that."
When asked about Mosquera in particular, he added:
"We have to wait and see. It's probably the knee or ankle. We don't know. He could not really tell us exactly how it was, but he wasn't able to continue."
Arsenal signed Mosquera from Valencia for a reported fee of €15 million plus add-ons in the summer. He's made 16 appearances across competitions for them.
