Former Liverpool star Daniel Sturridge has revealed the details of a conversation he had with Mohamed Salah about his future at the club. The Egypt international has had a falling out with coach Arne Slot at Anfield over perceived disrespect shown in benching him for multiple games.
Sturridge was on punditry duty with Amazon Prime for Tuesday's UEFA Champions League games, and he revealed that he has held talks with Salah. The former England international pointed out that he ascertained from their conversations that the forward is keen on remaining at the club despite what has happened.
"He is going to be watching at home wishing he was here. Wishing he could have helped the team. In the moment there is a level of reflection, because it is so raw now and it is so fresh it is hard to reflect on the situation. We are in it. We have all been through ups and downs. I think for Mo right now, I think he wants to help the team get back to where they have been which was at the top. I think watching what's happened you want to be part of it. You're at home, you're sat there.
"This goes for players who are injured and players who are in this situation the last thing you want to do is not be part of it. I think that is of course going to be hurting him because he knows. He loves playing for this club, I know this. Mo has told me 'I love this football club. I don't want to leave this club. This is where I want to be'. He wants to be a Liverpool player, but he wants to play. I think they will have a conversation. I can't speak for Mo and what he is going to do, I don't know how he is going to feel but I think there needs to be another conversation between the manager and Mohamed Salah", he said (via SportBible).
Sturridge and Salah were teammates at Anfield before the former left Liverpool in 2018 to join West Bromwich Albion. He struck up a good relationship with Salah, who joined the club in the summer of 2017, before he left the club.
Mohamed Salah had put his Liverpool future in doubt during his interview last weekend when he alleged that he has no relationship with Slot anymore. The 33-year-old will leave the club to join up with the Egypt national team for the AFCON this weekend, and will return at the end of the tournament next month.
Liverpool star reveals thoughts on Salah's future
Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has revealed his thoughts on the future of teammate Mohamed Salah amid the ongoing saga. The former Chelsea man was left out of the squad for their UEFA Champions League trip to Inter Milan after an outburst against coach Arne Slot.
Robertson spoke with reporters after the 1-0 win at the San Siro, revealing that he hopes to continue playing alongside the Egyptian. He was asked for his thoughts on his future, and revealed that he loves playing with the forward.
"That'll be up to other people, it's not up to me. I love playing with Mo Salah and I hope to continue playing with him", he said (via Standard.co.uk).
Andy Robertson has been at Liverpool since 2017, having joined the club in the same summer as the Egypt international. The left-back is one of the most experienced players at the club, but has largely lost his place in the starting XI to summer signing Milos Kerkez.
