The action continues in round 17 of the Australian A-League as Newcastle Jets and Melbourne City go head-to-head on Saturday. Aurelio Vidmar’s men have won each of their last four visits to the McDonald Jones Stadium since February 2022 and will be looking to extend this impressive three-year streak.
Will Dobson and Lachlan Rose scored on either side of Louis Verstraete’s 14th-minute equalizer to hand Newcastle Jets a 2-1 victory over Auckland FC at the Mount Smart Stadium last Sunday.
This was a much-needed result for Mark Milligan’s side, who had lost each of their previous three games and four of their first five matches this season while conceding 14 goals and scoring nine.
With six points from the first 18 available, Newcastle Jets are currently bottom but one in the A-League table, only above Melbourne Victory, who have picked up just four points.
Elsewhere, Melbourne City failed to win consecutive league games for the first time this season last weekend when they played out a goalless draw with Central Coast Mariners.
Before that, Vidmar’s men suffered a 4-1 defeat against Adelaide United in the league on November 21, four days before bouncing back in a 2-0 victory over Malaysian outfit Johor Darul Ta'zim in the AFC Champions League.
Melbourne City have picked up two wins and three draws from their six A-League games to collect nine points so far and sit fifth in the standings, level on points with ninth-placed Adelaide.
