Brighton & Hove Albion welcome Aston Villa to the Amex Stadium for a Premier League match this Wednesday. Both of these teams are currently flying high in the Premier League table.
Brighton are in fifth while Aston Villa are one spot above them in fourth, with just two points separating them.
So, can Brighton leapfrog Villa this week or will Unai Emery's team hand the Seagulls a defeat?
Brighton & Hove Albion vs Aston Villa Head-to-Head and Key Numbers
- Recent meetings between these sides have tended to go in Aston Villa's favour. They have beaten Brighton in three of their last five competitive meetings while only losing once, and have also won three of their last four visits to the Amex.
- Brighton are coming into this game unbeaten in their last four, with their most recent game being an impressive 0-2 win over Nottingham Forest. Fabian Hurzeler's men, in fact, have only lost one of their last nine Premier League games.
- Aston Villa are on an even better run of form than Brighton at the minute. They've won their last five matches in all competitions, and have won seven of their last eight Premier League games, with the only loss coming to Liverpool on November 1st.
- While Brighton have been defeated on three occasions this season, none of those defeats have come at the Amex, where they are unbeaten in six, winning four and drawing two.
- Aston Villa's defensive capabilities have looked fantastic in the past few weeks. Since September 28th, they've only conceded six goals, and in fact, only league leaders Arsenal have conceded fewer than their current total of 11.
Brighton & Hove Albion vs Aston Villa Prediction
Given that this match pits two of the Premier League's form sides against one another, it's very difficult to pick a winner.
On one hand, Aston Villa's run of form looks fantastic right now, they haven't really been conceding goals, and they've won five in a row.
On the other hand, though, Brighton have also been winning games, particularly at home where they haven't lost yet, and their defence has looked tight too.
Overall, then, it feels like a score draw is likely to be the result here, although it's fair to say that it could go either way too.
Prediction: Brighton & Hove Albion 2-2 Aston Villa
