The action continues in round five of the Australian A-League as Auckland FC play host to Brisbane Roar at the Go Media Stadium on Saturday. Steve Corica’s men head into the weekend as the only unbeaten side in the league and could open up a four-point lead at the top of the standings.
Despite finishing with nine men, Auckland FC turned in a defensive show of class last time out when they held on to see out a 2-1 victory over Wellington Phoenix at the Wellington Regional Stadium on November 8.
Corica’s side have won each of their last three games, scoring five goals and conceding twice since kicking off the season with a goalless draw against Melbourne Victory on October 18.
Auckland, who suffered a quarter-final exit from the Australia Cup against Heidelberg back in August, have picked up 10 points from the first 12 available to sit top of the A-League table, one point above second-placed Sydney FC.
Elsewhere, Brisbane Roar picked up their most convincing victory this season just before the international break when they thrashed Newcastle Jets 3-0 at the Sunshine Coast Stadium on November 9.
Having kicked off the season with a 1-0 win over Macarthur in October, Michael Valkanis’ men fell to a 2-1 loss against Wellington Phoenix on October 26, five days before playing out a goalless draw with Melbourne City.
Brisbane Roar have picked up seven points from their first five matches to sit fifth in the A-League standings, but victory this weekend could see them climb to the top of the table.
