Yuki Tsunoda felt that a points finish was well within reach at the 2025 Mexican Grand Prix, but circumstances beyond his control compromised his race. Speaking to the media, including Sportskeeda, the Japanese driver explained that strategic calls played a major role in shaping his result.

Starting from tenth on the grid, Tsunoda climbed into the Top 5 before being used strategically to cover Max Verstappen’s pit stop. The timing of that stop ultimately dropped him down the order, despite having a race pace comparable to his Red Bull teammate. While Verstappen finished third, Tsunoda narrowly missed out on points in 11th place.

Reflecting on the race, Tsunoda said that he was satisfied with his personal performance, particularly his pace and overtakes, but admitted frustration that the pit stop strategy cost him a potential Top 10 finish.

When asked by Sportskeeda about his race, Yuki Tsunoda said:

“Yeah, points were easily possible today, probably around P6, P7. We just threw away the points from places which I couldn't control. But I think, to be honest, what I've done was pretty good. I've just lost the points with areas I can't control. So, very frustrating.”

Yuki Tsunoda believes Mexican GP race pace was his best of the season with Red Bull

Yuki Tsunoda believed that the Mexican GP was the best performance in race trim with Red Bull Racing. The Japanese driver felt that his pace was not far from the Dutch champion. He felt that it was a shame the results did not reflect his true pace during the race, which dropped him outside the points.

When asked about his performance in the race in terms of race pace, Tsunoda replied:

“Yeah, I mean, firstly, especially, I was not too far from Max, I was lapping pretty much saying. So yeah. Like I said, he ended up P3 and I was not that far away, the first stint. And yeah, we just pitstop timing and pit-stop. Made it myself, a lot about that, so what I've done today was, I think it's good and probably one of the best pace I've shown in the Red Bull in long run. But just didn't able to see it in the results, which was very shameful."

Yuki Tsunoda has accumulated 28 points so far this season, with most of his strong performances coming after the summer break as he grew more comfortable with the RB21. In recent weeks, speculation has mounted that Isack Hadjar could replace him for the 2026 season. However, Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies has confirmed that no decision has been made yet and that the team was in no hurry to finalize its lineup.

One of the key reasons for the delay is Red Bull’s focus on the ongoing championship battle. The team sits fourth in the Constructors’ standings, locked in a tight fight with Ferrari and Mercedes, trailing Mercedes by nine points and Ferrari by ten points.
