Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition promises to be the most definitive way to revisit Bethesda's 2015 open-world sci-fi RPG. While that looks to be the case with enhanced visuals, improved stability, all add-on content, and more, there is one glaring omission: Dion's "The Wanderer" music track.

The 1961 song has become synonymous with Fallout 4 due to its extensive use in promotional material for the game during its launch. However, with it no longer part of the game's OST, it leaves Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition a lesser experience than before. Let's dive into the what and why.

Why Dion's "The Wanderer" song is no longer in Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition

The Fallout series has adopted many old songs into its games, and this was no exception. It seems like The Wanderer was omitted from this new release primarily due to the license for the song expiring. This is nothing new in the world of video games, as music tracks with expired licenses are often axed from new releases, such as remasters.

Additionally, Dion also filed a lawsuit against publisher Bethesda back in 2017 over the song's use in a marketing campaign featuring violent content, which is unavoidable given the series' dark, violent post-apocalyptic nature. While the lawsuit controversy was dropped years ago, the song's failure to return in Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition means that the publisher did not want to renew the license.

In other words, this new updated re-release of Fallout 4 is no doubt worse than the original, especially since it has been catching flak from fans for being buggy. As if that was not enough, this new update also breaks existing mods for the game, meaning fans are left with no choice but to downgrade from Anniversary Edition to the base game experience.
