Who is Scrappy the rooster? ARC Raiders lore explained

Scrappy in ARC Raiders is one of the first companions that players find in Speranza. For those who don't know, it's a rooster that sits in the workshop and helps the players collect basic crafting materials during raids. Interestingly, the developers recently shared a blog on the official website that explains the origin story behind adding the companion to the game.

According to the developers, Scrappy was initially named after a real rooster called Håkan. It all started when one of the 3D artists, Johan, joined an online meeting to work with others on the game. He used to live with his parents, who happened to have chickens at home, and one day, some of them walked into the frame during the meeting.

One of the chickens was blind in one eye and was really friendly. Johan adored him and ended up scanning him in as a joke, although he was never meant to be in the game permanently. Rather, the rooster was a small easter egg in the early build of the game.

However, during the later part of the game development, the team needed a character that would act as a "resource producer", and they discussed many ideas, including a robot, cat, and more. During a meeting, someone remembered Håkan, the clumsy rooster, and suggested using it temporarily. What started as a temporary placeholder ended up becoming an important part of the game.

Håkan was renamed to Scrappy, and now, he is one of the most iconic elements in ARC Raiders. Scrappy acts as your loot assistant who helps you gather materials as long as you are able to extract successfully. You can even upgrade him to become stronger and collect more items.
