When you’re ready, speak to the Nightdream Monk in the Thousand Buddha Vale, who will inform you this is no place for you. Regardless, he’ll still ask you to help him complete three rituals. These are incredibly simple, and all rather close to where the monk is in Where Winds Meet. Just head to the locations the game points you to, and interact with each ritual.

Report back to the Nightdream Monk when you’re done, and he’ll ask you to dream with him. It’s a dream that “frees beings from suffering, yet cannot be spoken of to anyone else.” It’s a very special dream, and you will return to him at midnight.

2) Approach the slowly advancing procession, Join the procession and hold the ritual lamp, Traverse the long corridor

Now that is’ midnight in Where Winds Meet, Where a Thousand Buddhas Wept returns to action. You don’t even have to fast forward the clock for this quest, unlike Twelve Years of Grudges. The next step is to approach the slowly advancing procession, and you’ll see a group of what appear to be people, walking in a line.

Ad

The procession cannot be completed, because for some reason, it’s missing a Lantern Bearer. So you’ll need to hold the Lantern for them. Pick up the lantern on the ground, and join the procession. Then you just need to slowly advance with the procession, and that’s going to take some time. They’re spirits, so they’re in no special hurry.

You’ll also need to traverse a long corridor, while listening to the people from the past, in this Where Winds Meet side quest. It’s pretty depressing stuff, so just take it all in, and walk slowly with everyone else as a part of Where a Thousand Buddhas Wept in Where Winds Meet.

You’ll continue up the incredibly long path, and the Nightdream Monk will tell you the people you see are people the villagers cared about the most, but would never meet again. They instead remember them on the path to beyond.

At the end of the road, you’ll need to navigate through a large crowd in Where Winds Meet. Just push forward and bulldoze your way through, because there’s no secret path. Just make your way forward the best you can, though it will be slow. You’ll hear people praying for miracles, and trying to be “more sincere”.

The masked Temple Keeper will read off people’s prayers for hope and miracles, as you investigate what once took place in the old temple. Look inside the temple, which will take a while, since your movement is unusually slow. There’s nothing to interact with, so just look around inside, and turn around again.

Ad

You’ll see a Sun Family Man trying to do three thousand kowtows, and unfortunately, he doesn’t quite get through them all before passing out, or perhaps perishing. It’s an incredibly sad scene. All you can do right now is watch, and wait. Eventually, you’ll be able to move again, and you will need to talk to the Nightdream Monk.

He’ll tell you that this was ultimately what happened to the village. They were trying to save themselves from some form of calamitous fire, but it still consumed them in the end.

Ad

It seemed to come to them even faster, and destroyed the village. It’s unknown to them why this village was consumed by flames, but could not move on to the next life. The fire hit them and never went out, trapping their spirits here forever. Until now, at least.

4) Pick up the ritual lamp and join the procession again, The villagers waver, reluctant to move forward, Put down the lamp and speak to the Monk, Lead the villagers into the fire, talk to the Nightdream Monk, Listen to the Nightdream Monk’s last request

Pick up the ritual lamp and join the procession again in Where Winds Meet, after talking to the Monk. He’ll warn you to be careful, as the wind will grow hotter as we get closer to the fire, but your character is in no particular danger. He informs you that some people actually left in time to be spared from the fire, but not everyone did.

Ad

Before too long in Where Winds Meet, the villager’s spirits will be reluctant, and unwilling to move forward. Then you must put down the lamp and speak to the Monk again. He’ll tell you it’s time for these people to let the tragedy go. The Nightdream Monk himself will walk right into the fire and be consumed, and so will the villagers. Walk with them, deeper into the fire.

Ad

It’s a slow walk, but after a few minutes, they’ll be gone, and you can talk to the Nightdream Monk again. He’ll tell you a few philosophical things, and then you’ll follow the spirits to the end. At the end, he’ll have one final request for you, to light the final free, to free them, and bring these people peace.

Do so, and you’ll awaken the next morning, to see a few monks who you’ll speak with. This completes Where a Thousand Buddhas Wept in Where Winds Walk, and gives you access to the Guardian Palm Mystic Art.
