How to play the Gift of Gab minigame in Where Winds Meet

Gift of Gab is first encountered as part of the Gift of Gab: Silver Tongue side quest. This sees you track down the NPC Song Jiu in Heaven's Pier. He will take you to a location near the Northern Vow Ruins, where he reveals he has gotten into trouble with another NPC named He Wanchun.

This healthy-shaped fellow is a bandit who has seemingly stolen Jiu's Inner Ways manual and must be defeated for the latter to get his possession back. While the vast majority of content concerning other NPCs in Where Winds Meet revolves around combat, this side quest is different in the sense that it is an introduction to the Gift of Gab minigame.

Approach He Wanchun, who is atop a rock nearby on the riverside, and talk to him to begin the mini-game. The rules are simple on paper, but this mini-game is not really conveyed well to the player, especially with the amount of information and text thrown on-screen at once.

That said, you must bear the following points in mind:

• Gift of Gab is a verbal minigame involving a random deck of speech cards used to debate against the opponent's quotes.
• Both the debaters have a Mental Focus gauge, and the goal is to knock the foe's meter down to 0 to win using the right cards.
• Cards are activated using Inspiration, a meter in the bottom-right corner.

Each card has different uses, from dealing a certain percentage of damage to increasing the user's Inspiration. The key is to upkeep Inspiration to keep the cards coming and use them to whittle down the foe's Mental Focus quicker. Occasionally, players will get a prompt to offer a rebuttal, which is indicated by a flowing icon on their side of the dialogue on the right side of the screen.

This prompt is on a timer, so be sure to activate it as soon as possible to gain a buff and unleash unique offensive attacks, such as silencing the opponent for a few turns. Since this is the intro mission to Gift of Gab, Song Jiu will hold the players' hand throughout half of the debate, but the latter half is up to the player.

Once He Wanchun has been defeated, he returns the Inner Ways scroll to Song Jiu. While this instance of the minigame is over, more people await debating across the Where Winds Meet's open world.
