Begin the Gathering of Heroes quest in Where Winds Meet by making your way to the Temporal Pavilion, which is situated close to the bridge in the area known as Velvet Shade. Once you arrive, you will encounter Big Zhao and also meet Little Fu, who is there waiting to talk about a specific plan. Following a brief cutscene, Big Zhao will propose the idea of secretly boarding a boat that is nearby, and then your entire group will depart on the journey together.
Once aboard, a transition cutscene plays, transporting you to Revelry Hall at Velvet Shade. Follow Zhao and Little Fu inside as the party atmosphere turns suspicious. You’ll soon witness a short sequence where a few intruders attempt to sneak in and only to be swiftly dealt with, setting the stage for what’s about to unfold.
Moments later, The Ember of East, the powerful Master of Weiyang City, makes his dramatic entrance at Where Winds Meet.

Disguises and entry into Revelry Hall

After the appearance of The Ember of East, Big Zhao returns to you, saying he’s found a way inside. Follow him until you reach a chest filled with outfits. Interact with it to change clothes, as these disguises will help you blend in with the Velvet Shade disciples.
Once dressed, follow Zhao to the stairs leading into Revelry Hall. You’ll encounter a Velvet Shade Disciple who questions Zhao’s covered face. You’ll be given two dialogue options:
- “Uh…”
- “Ringworm infection.”
Choosing the latter lets you pass safely. After that, continue following Zhao deeper into the hall until another cutscene triggers.
The Ember of East’s proposal and the Gold-Making Vessel

Inside, Big Zhao tells one of the disciples that Big Feng sent both of you to meet The Ember of East personally. This leads to a long cinematic sequence introducing multiple major figures.
The Ember of East reveals the Gold-Making Vessel, a mythical device said to produce gold from nothing. He announces his intent to offer it to the Great Song Dynasty to ease the empire’s financial strain and invites the gathered heroes to test it.
Several prominent figures volunteer:
- Dao Lord claims control of all Kaifeng’s underground markets, saying he’ll use the vessel to feed the city’s poor.
- Shen Yilun, the Ever-Peace Commissioner, argues that feeding Kaifeng requires stocked granaries, and thus, he should go first.
- Murong Yuan, a general, insists he needs gold to finish his warship project for the empire’s safety.
Before any of them can proceed, Lord Shi interrupts, reminding everyone that the vessel is a national treasure meant for the court’s examination. He approaches the artifact, places his hands inside, and moments later, gold coins burst forth in a shower of light.
The chaos at Revelry Hall

The celebration is short-lived. A sudden explosion shakes the hall, sending the vessel and several heroes plummeting down. Amid the confusion, Dao Lord seizes the vessel, sparking a chaotic brawl.
This leads to a combat segment where your objective is to defend the Gold-Making Vessel. Use your best combos and defensive maneuvers (L1 to guard and R1 for combo strikes). Focus on crowd control, as waves of enemies will try to grab the vessel.
When prompted, press X to Leap, triggering another cutscene where your character becomes surrounded by rival heroes. Big Zhao steps in to defuse the situation just before the Prefect of Kaifeng arrives.
The chamber pot incident and the Prefect’s deal in Where Winds Meet

The Prefect demands to see the vessel. When the bag is opened, it’s revealed to contain a chamber pot instead, which is a decoy handed to you earlier without your knowledge. This sparks suspicion, and the Prefect accuses you of theft. You plead innocence, claiming you were only there to meet someone.
Big Zhao vouches for you, but the Prefect offers a grim ultimatum: you must find the real thief within seven days, or die from a Soulbreaker Pill he forces upon you. You’re given three choices:
- Agree to take the medicine
- Resist with words
- Resist with force
Regardless of your choice, you’ll end up consuming the pill during the Gathering of Heroes quest. The Prefect takes Zhao with him, leaving you to begin your investigation.
Investigating clues and meeting the Know-It-All in Where Winds Meet
Head toward Zhao’s location, marked 38 meters away. Eavesdrop on his conversation from a safe distance, then speak with him directly. Afterwards, climb to the third floor to investigate for clues. Use hearing mode to listen to the Prefect of Kaifeng’s conversation nearby.
Examine the ruins next to you to uncover a broken mask, which is an important clue. Return to Zhao and tell him what you’ve found. He mentions the Know-It-All of Kaifeng, a man said to be as clever as Zhuge Liang himself.

Before visiting the Know-It-All, Zhao suggests checking in with The Ember of East, but the guards refuse entry. This forces you to divert to the Entertainment District, where you’ll meet Master Pu.
Pu inspects the mask and advises you to find the Ferryman in the Forsaken Quarter, southeast of Kaifeng. The Ferryman can sell you a ticket, which is your way into the mysterious Nine Mortal Ways. After chatting with Zhao and Pu, the quest concludes in Where Winds Meet.
