Great Hero's Trial is one of the very first Wandering Tales you'll have encountered in Where Winds Meet. It's located quite close to the starting area in the game, near the eastern shores of Bamboo Adobe. Like all Wandering Tales, there's no objective pointers to railroad you to the solution; you must identify and attend to all the quest stages yourself.

To start the Great Hero's Trial tale, start from the Bamboo Adobe waypoint, and then trek eastwards till you see a waterfall. You'll have to jump down to get to the low ground (you can use Mighty Drop to mitigate damage during this), and then you'll find an old shrine in the shade of the cliffs, located towards your left when looking at the waterfall.

A child called Rongrong will be standing inside the shrine. Talk to her to start off the quest, which basically gives you three clues to complete three trials.

How to complete Great Hero's Trial in Where Winds Meet: All trial locations

The three checkboxes to tick for the Great Hero's Trial Wandering Tale is straightforward: you have to fell the thickest tree, hunt the highest bird, and climb the ladderless tower. All of the objectives can be located relatively close to the shrine, but if you want to skip ahead and complete the tale immediately, here's what you have to do for each.

Starting from the shrine, look left (towards the waterfall) and look for a larger tree that's not a bamboo tree. There's only one in the area, so it's easy to spot. Simply walk up to it and whack it a few times to fell it, and get the first tablet for the Great Hero's Trial.

Where to find the highest bird

To kill "the highest bird", you'll have to get to the highest altitude possible in the Bamboo Abode area. While looking at the waterfall, look towards your right, and check out the tallest cliff peak peeking through the woods. You'll have to climb and trek your way there.

We've also pointed out the map location of this area, but really the easiest way to locate it is to climb past the waterfall and then look towards your right to find the tallest boulder nearby. Note that it's a bit out of the way, and it's not the long boulder right next the top of the waterfall.

Once there, you can find a white bird flying around nearby. Enter Still Waters mode with your bow for an easy kill. Loot the bird afterwards to get the second tablet.

The ladderless tower in question is an ordinary wooden lookout tower located nearby. Starting from the shrine, go towards the right this time, and move along the coast until you see the tower near a run-down house.

There's no ladder to the top, as you may have guessed. Instead, you can triple-jump to reach a plank stretching out just slightly, and then reach the top in two more double jumps. I did it without actually usign the plank, because the collision detection on the tower's edge is very forgiving.

Once you have all three trials completed, head back to Rongrong and select the "Give" option to hand her the proof. The rewards for completing the Great Hero's Trial can be claimed from the Wandering Tales screen (accessible from the Journal menu):

You don't really get a Secret Tome as promised, and we haven't found any secret endings that lead to it immediately. Instead, it's a bunch of generic goodies for doing another exploration activity.

However, it may potentially lead to future Wandering Tales or sidequests for this so-called Secret Tome. If I find in my playthrough of Where Winds Meet, I'll update this article.
