What is Friendship system in Where Winds Meet?

Where Winds Meet has included the Friendship system to make interactions feel more lively and rewarding. It is governed by AI, meaning NPCs will respond according to your text and its tone. The vast open world features many characters, but not all of them are as interactive.

Some are static with preset responses, so you might not be able to befriend them. The Friendship system applies to those who are marked with the golden icon.

As of writing, players are able to increase friendship level/ befriend NPCs through interactions. Just make sure to approach the characters with the golden icon on the map and spark up a conversation. After the initial exchange, you will find dialogue options with a hat marker.

Click on it to open a special chatbox containing a summary of the NPC at the top. It will specify their preferences and current emotional state, along with some response suggestions. You can either click on the preset option or use the text box below to type in a custom response.

If you pick the latter, the AI will read it, and the NPC will react to whatever you said. You can eventually befriend them using this method. Note that these NPCs can be stubborn or act shocked if you type in anything random in the chatbox. Fortunately, there have been no reports of hostility, but try not to provoke them.

Friendship system rewards

Befriending NPCs in Where Winds Meet isn't mandatory. However, you will want to make them your acquaintance to get exciting weekly rewards. NPCs with increased friendship levels offer additional gifts and narrate unique stories.

You will meet many special characters throughout the provinces of Qinghe and Kaifeng. Try to befriend as many NPCs as you can to get more freebies.
