Where Winds Meet appears to be one of the most ambitious Wuxia-inspired open-world RPGs in years. With a release date of November 14, 2025, on PC and PS5, the game is set in 10th-century China during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. What differentiates it from the beginning is the way the game implements freedom of choice.

The game also includes PvP battles for those who want to test out their martial skills against others. But for most, the real joy is that the game works well as a narrative-driven single-player experience, including all the bells and whistles associated with such a title (side quests, choices through dialogue, and cinematic storytelling).

You can even toggle the HUD on and off with a button press, letting you enjoy the game’s breathtaking landscapes without clutter.

Character creation, customization, and world scale

The game’s character creator is one of the deepest seen in the genre. Every aspect, starting from facial details to body structure and attire, can be adjusted. You can later expand your look further through outfits, masks, and dyes, crafting a hero that truly feels personal. And since all paid elements are cosmetic, there’s no pressure to spend money to stay competitive.

The open world itself is massive, split across distinct regions that capture China’s natural diversity, dense cities like Kiang, misty marshlands, mountain ranges, and ancient ruins.

Deep combat and weapon variety

Combat in Where Winds Meet is fast, fluid, and surprisingly strategic. You can carry two weapons at once and switch between them mid-battle for fluid combos. Each weapon comes with its own moveset and special abilities, from the fiery Strategic Sword to the versatile Heavenquaker Spear or the flashy Infernal Twinblades.

The game also introduces Mystic Arts, special martial techniques inspired by ancient disciplines. One particularly fun moment involves learning Tai Chi from a bear, which is a lighthearted touch that captures the game’s personality.

The variety doesn’t stop there. You can fight aggressively, take a stealth approach using shadow-based techniques, or mix both depending on the situation. Some boss fights even reward adaptability, forcing you to change tactics or switch weapons mid-fight.

Living world and side activities

Every corner of Where Winds Meet feels handcrafted with purpose. You can scale walls, glide across rooftops, or meditate at scenic viewpoints. There’s a seamless day-night cycle, changing weather, and events like fireworks shows or festivals. Even small choices, such as drinking from a suspicious bottle, might trigger a strange dream sequence or temporarily turn you into a dog.

Side activities are woven naturally into the world. You might find treasure chests on rooftops, hunt wild animals for crafting materials, or take on city contracts for gold and reputation. The progression system ties it all together, letting you earn new talents, internal arts, and rare equipment.
