Octopath Traveler 0: How to unlock the boat

Octopath Traveler 0 has a wealth of side quests, including one that allows you to unlock a boat. The Queen Orsa is an incredible ship, and having it allows you to visit a variety of small, dangerous islands, pick up treasure chests, and battle Elite Enemies. Without the boat, you can’t unlock at least one character, either.

Thankfully, the side quest to unlock the boat in Octopath Traveler 0 is pretty easy, but there should be an alternate way to do it, if you talk to enough people in each of the cities you visit in the game. Here’s what you need to know.

Steps to unlock the boat in Octopath Traveler 0

After you’ve completed Master of Fame, Wealth, and Power Chapter 3, Octopath Traveler 0 players can begin to unlock the boat. To do this, you need to head to Rippletide and pick up the side quest The Queen Orsa. You can also find this in your Quest Log, but it will be titled “???”.

Run down to the dock and speak to the NPC, Marjim, who is looking to get rid of his ship. It’s damaged and the fix is incredibly expensive. He’s giving up his life of adventure and is willing to pass the ship on to you, if you can fix it. You can do this in one of two ways. The first is to farm 80,000 leaves. This is the route I took, because, at the time, it didn’t seem like there was any other way.

The other option appears to be to go to Emberglow and speak to the Skilled Shipwright. He’s right outside of the item shop in Emberglow. Inquire with him, and then Recruit him, and bring him back to Marjim to complete this quest. Either way you do it, finish up the side quest, and it will culminate with Marjim piloting the boat for you, and becoming an adventurer once again. Sorry, he’s not a party member, though.

This unlocks the boat for you in Octopath Traveler 0, and you can set sail from Rippletide anytime you want. If you have the ability to fast travel to dungeons, you can also teleport to the various islands out on the sea.

This is the only way you can get to the expensive, but pleasant city of Grandport, as well as reach Isle of the Sages, or unlock the collection of legendary weapons. At this point, the world is your oyster, and you can sail where you please! Just get ready to fight, because there are lots of powerful foes on the open seas.
