Octopath Traveler 0: How to defeat Lady Herminia

Lady Herminia is the final foe of the Master of Wealth storyline in Octopath Traveler 0. Here's what she can do (Image via Square Enix)

Lady Herminia awaits Octopath Traveler 0 players at the end of the Master of Wealth storyline. At the end of chapter 3, within Herminia’s Manse, players will have to fight off both the Master of Wealth, and her Lady-in-Waiting. Thankfully, the minion isn’t much of a threat, compared to Herminia herself. However, there’s more to her than just fighting this one form.

Like Auguste and Tytos, Lady Herminia has a second form/second phase in Octopath Traveler 0, once you defeat her the first time. She will activate her ring, and trigger her more powerful form, Herminia the Huntress. If you want to know what both forms can do and what they’re weak to, we’re here to help.

How to beat Herminia in Octopath Traveler 0

Lady Herminia will be your final encounter in Octopath Traveler 0’s Master of Wealth story. She does have one minion, but in my experience, they were not summoned a second time, since she only has one Lady-in-Waiting during the course of the story.

Like most major boss fights, hold your BP until you’ve got her broken, so you can dish out as much damage as possible. We have her weaknesses, health, and primary attacks below so you can be as ready as possible for this dangerous fight.

How to defeat Lady Herminia in Octopath Traveler 0 (Phase 1)

Stats

  • Health: 19,950 (Lady-in Waiting: 8,575)
  • Vulnerabilities: Dagger, Axe, Book, Lightning Magic, Shadow Magic (Lady-in-Waiting: Axe, Bow, Fan, Staff, Wind Magic)

Attacks

  • Thousand Scythes: Fan Damage to entire front row.
  • Hmm, what shall I do?: In one turn, she will cast Blazing Aurora to deal holy damage to the front row.
  • Abundant Light: Holy damage to one target.
  • Eclipse of the Soul: Deals damage and inflicts SP Sap.
  • Shining Stone: Deals Holy damage to several party members.
  • Mindrot Powder: Inflicts SP Sap on entire front row.

One thing I noted about Lady Herminia in Octopath Traveler 0, she activates her Boosted State (Hmm, what shall I do?) pretty early in the fight. For me, it triggered in the third round of combat. She followed up with AOE Holy Magic, Blazing Aurora. Regardless of what Lady Herminia does, focus down her Lady-in-Waiting first, so you stop receiving so many extra attacks, in addition to what the main boss does.

Eclipse of the Soul is extra annoying, because in addition to damage, it inflicts SP Sap, which drains your SP every turn. It’s one of the more infuriating status ailments, especially at this point in the game, where SP is at a premium. Make sure you have some SP restoratives on hand!

Most of Lady Herminia’s phase 1 attacks aren’t that dangerous. She’s more annoying because her Lady-in-Waiting has about half of the bosses’ health. The most frustrating part is the AOE damage, and SP Sap. Once you defeat this form, you can go on to Herminia the Huntress.

Thankfully, in Phase 2, Bargello is incredibly helpful. He boosts your defenses and magical damage against Herminia the Huntress in Octopath 0. She’s got quite a bit more health, though, and instead of the Lady-in-Waiting, she can summon a Manifestation of Mental Decay.

Like the first phase, you have to anticipate some SP loss, because she’s still packing that style of attack. Fathomless Arrow, for example, deals damage, and lowers the targets current SP. In addition, The Huntress’s Lament inflicts SP Sap for 3 turns, so that’s going to be a big problem.

She also has another status ailment in Temptation of the Night, which can put the whole front row to sleep. You may not have accessories to help with that at this point in Octopath Traveler 0, but if you have room, do consider them.

In addition, after you break her once, she inflicts a zone of mental collapse. This creates the Manifestation of Mental Decay that can now be targeted, and starts counting down from 4.

Ad

You can target the Manifestation of Mental Decay as it slowly counts down, but it does also have 12 Shield to crack through. When and if you break her again, she’ll create two Manifestations of Mental Collapse, and both count down from 4 as well. Each time you break her, she increases her Shields as well. We saw her go up to 23 after two breaks.

Unfortunately, we didn’t see what happens when these Manifestations hit 0, but we’ll update that when we’ve received the information about what it does. We do know that they attack with Radiant Arrow on their turn, so they're worth beating down for that reason alone.

Ad

Rest assured, their countdown cannot possibly be a good thing. When you defeat her, you’ll receive the Radiant Arrow Mastery, and can wrap this part of Octopath Traveler 0 up.

Octopath Traveler 0 is an incredible new JRPG from Square Enix that takes the story from the mobile game Champions of the Continent, and expands it into a brilliant, tragic story. You can learn more about it in our in-depth review.
