Octopath Traveler 0: How to defeat Commander Tytos

Commander Tytos in Octopath Traveler 0 is the final battle of the Master of Power storyline. This might be the boss the player has the most emotional connection to at this point as well, considering he led the attack on Wishvale, that led to the death of your character’s father and sacking of Wishvale. A powerful, aggressive combatant, he awaits you at the end of chapter 3 of Master of Power.

Like the Auguste and Herminia fights, this one will also have two phases, so get ready for a pair of back-to-back boss battles with no reprieve in the middle. If you’ve got solid AOE healing/SP restoratives, this shouldn’t be much of a threat. If you’re struggling with Commander Tytos in Octopath Traveler 0, here are his stats and attacks.

How to beat Commander Tytos in Octopath Traveler 0

Commander Tytos in Octopath Traveler 0 has some pretty seriously hard-hitting attacks. He also has access to, and uses frequently, attacks that inflict the Terror status ailment. This makes the player unable to use Boost, or to build BP, so removing it is important.

The trick to this fight is navigating the many ways Tytos can inflict Terror on party members in Octopath Traveler 0. If you’ve got Herbs of Valor, this is a great time to put them to use. If he gets your whole party with Terror, they cannot BP or Boost to increase hits/deal more damage. In most fights, I recommend saving your BP, but in this one, you definitely want to push through to breaking him, in my experience.

If you can cure Terror, Precipice of Fear does nothing, and so I cannot stress enough, if you can remove it, do so. That, or stun him, so when he recovers, and uses Precipice of Fear, it deals no damage to your party members.

Compared to some of the other leaders, Commander Tytos’s Boosted Attack isn’t really that much of a threat. After you see Commander Tytos stands ready, he’ll use Dual Thunderblades. It hits two party members for pretty high lightning damage, but it’s weaker than what he used in the mobile game. After you whittle him down, get ready for phase 2!

As the Tytos the Thunderblade fight begins in Octopath Traveler 0, Velnorte helps out by triggering Vim and Vigor on the whole party, to help with regeneration. He also uses Enhanced Remedy to buff the parties’ Physical/Magical damage. This is certainly a helpful boon.

Phase 2 of this Octopath Traveler 0 fight is much harder than Herminia or Auguste. His BP down, combined with Terror attacks (Suppression) make it very hard to build up repeated attacks to wear down his impressive 19 Shield.

While he starts off using the Energy Draining Barrier, when you break it, the BP he stole this way does get refunded to the party, so it becomes much easier to start hammering away at his health pool. However, when he recovers, his Shield total increases, and the Barrier returns.

Make the most of your BP while he’s stunned, and exploit as many weaknesses as possible, because you’re almost certainly going to lose out on any BP the moment that shield returns. In my experience, he also immediately Suppression, so Terror goes right back on.

His most powerful attack is Wail of the Thunderblade, which triggers after Tytos the Thunderblade stands ready! In my experience, he does this when he’s at 25% or less health. If the attack goes through, it deals massive lightning damage to the front row.

In the original version it also reduced party members inflicted by Terror to 1 health, but none of my party members had that experience. After you finally defeat this foe, claim Brutal Sweep Mastery, and wrap up the Master of Power storyline. If this is your third one, get ready to begin Master of All.
