Octopath Traveler 0: How to break Damage Limit (Surpassing Power)

Octopath Traveler 0 offers players the power to break damage limit with the passive power Surpassing Power, provided you can find it. It’s pretty deep into the game, so don’t expect it to happen anytime soon, even if you’re consistently hitting for 9,999 damage on certain characters. Alexia’s a good example of someone who can easily hit for the normal max damage, thanks to the sheer power of her ultimate attack.

If you’re looking to unlock Surpassing Power and breaking Damage Limit in Octopath Traveler 0, you’re going to need to unlock one of the more familiar characters from the franchise, and that’s Olberic the Unbending Blade.

How to unlock Surpassing Power to break Damage Limit in Octopath Traveler 0

In order to break Damage Limit in the first place in Octopath Traveler 0, you need to complete a few very important steps. This cannot take place at all until you complete the Finale, since that’s when the important Encounter with Olberic will open up to you.

For each level of Surpassing Power you have, another character can equip it (Image via Square Enix)

Once you have access to it, complete the very easy Encounter/side quest, and add Olberic to your party. From here, you just need to do a few things, and you can start powering up your party members.

Steps to unlock Surpassing Power

• Unlock all skills with Olberic.
• Invest extra SP into levels of Surpassing Power.
• Unlock extra Support Slots on the character you want to equip.
• Equip them with Surpassing Power in the Equip Skills section of the menu.

As you can see in the screenshot above, Olberic has 7 levels of Surpassing Power, which means we have 7 characters we can equip it to. You don’t need to equip Olberic with Surpassing Power, since it’s one of his baseline powers.

All you need to do now in Octopath Traveler 0, is become strong enough to deal more than 9,999 damage. Attacking with fully charged special attacks/ultimates against an enemy those attacks are weak to makes that easier.

For example, if you use Therion’s Assassinate ability from the back row by swapping him to the front, against a broken enemy who is weak to daggers, increases the odds you will deal 10k+ damage. By this point in the game, you should have several characters who have a chance to do just that.
