On that note, here’s a quick look at some of the notable teams that have disbanded and the possible reasons behind the rapid decline of the game's competitive scene.

Why teams are stepping away from the Marvel Rivals esports scene

On November 5, 2025, Sentinels shared a statement on X that surprised a lot of fans. In that post, they announced their decision to leave the Marvel Rivals competitive scene.

They also stated that they would reconsider building a team again only if NetEase Games introduced a proper incentive program for the teams, something that esports teams in Counter-Strike 2, Valorant, and Overwatch benefit from.

On August 11, 2025, Rad EU, the winners of the Marvel Rivals Ignite 2025 Mid Season Finals, also announced their departure from the scene without specifying the reason. Similarly, many other notable teams such as RedBull OG, Zero Tenacity, and Team Nemesis left the scene quietly in the past few months.

Based on the situation, it seems like there are several reasons behind the rapid decline of the game's esports scene. To start with, the lack of consistent events throughout the year makes it difficult for the teams to sustain operations, especially when there's no official incentive program. Moreover, there are no major third-party organizers that seem to be interested in hosting Marvel Rivals events.

The viewership of the events has also been underwhelming so far. According to Esports Charts, the Ignite Series peaked at roughly 81,000 viewers, which is quite low considering th $3 million prize pool and the game's large player base.

Overall, such early decline of the game's competitive scene suggests that while the game remains popular among the casual audience, the esports aspect still lacks the structure and community engagement to keep things going.
