Undertaker and Scholar in Elden Ring Nightreign are two new Nightfarers introduced through The Forsaken Hollows DLC. Both characters unlock through the same short quest chain tied to the Roundtable Hold and the Small Jar Bazaar, and the process is more about story progression than combat difficulty.
Here’s how to unlock Undertaker and Scholar in Elden Ring Nightreign.
How to get Undertaker and Scholar in Elden Ring Nightreign

- You must own The Forsaken Hollows DLC. Players with the Deluxe Edition get this automatically.

- You must have already defeated Tricephalos (Gladius, Beast of Night) at least once. Any character works, and you do not need to fight this boss again if it’s already cleared.
Once those boxes are checked, you’re ready to begin.
Speak to the Iron Menial
After defeating Tricephalos, return to the Roundtable Hold. The Iron Menial should appear and relay a message from the Small Jar Merchant asking you to visit the Small Jar Bazaar.
Visit the Small Jar Bazaar
Head to the Small Jar Bazaar and talk to the Small Jar Merchant. After the conversation, interact with the door near him. This triggers a boss encounter with the Dreglord. Important thing to note here:
- Losing the fight is fine and actually progresses the quest.
- The boss is strong and will take you down in a single hit.
During the fight, both the Undertaker and Scholar in Elden Ring Nightreign will already be present, assisting in the battle.
Watch the cutscene and talk to both characters
After the fight ends, a cutscene will play. Once it’s over, the previously sealed room will be open. Go through the door, and you'll find yourself in a Chapel area where you'll meet both Undertaker and Scholar.
Speak to them individually. Simply talking to both characters is enough to unlock them as playable Nightfarers. Both can now be selected normally from the Character Selection menu.
