If you don’t pick Rope Dart as a weapon in Where Winds Meet’s early hours, you’ll have to find another way to learn its weapon skills. The same goes for any other weapon, but you’ll have to wait quite a while to unlock the Rope Dart. The tutors of this mysterious, aggressive weapon style are in Kaifeng, so you at least need to be on the New Guest in Kaifeng quest, and have access to the city itself.
While it’s not necessary if you don’t want access to Rope Dart weapon skills, I think it’s worth doing simply for the joy of using the incredible Disguise system in Where Winds Meet. If you’re struggling to unlock the Rope Dart style, here’s what you need to do.

The goal is to infiltrate the Nine Mortal Ways dojo, and reach a specific point on the grounds to activate Skill Theft. However, if anyone spots you, you’ll immediately fail and be kicked out. I recommend trying this a few times just to see what it’s like. I began unlocking this without Disguise, and an NPC (Ni Laoshan) showed up to recommend I get it.
He said there was a technique to allow me to get into the base, through Disguise. If you already have Disguise unlocked, this may not be necessary. We’ve covered unlocking Disguise here, and it’s a requirement for unlocking Rope Dart in Where Winds Meet. However, you’ll need to do at least one side quest for Shopkeeper Wuyan (Disguise Master), because the target you want to emulate is a Rank 2 disguise.

Across the street from the Nine Mortal Ways entrance, you should see an NPC named Muddle <Outer Disciple of Nine Mortal Ways>, and once you have Disguise unlocked, you’ll see the mask icon over him. Get close to him, paint his picture, and return to Wuyan. If you’re still just rank 1, the game will tell you that you should do a side quest for Wuyan to rank up. Do one, and then change into Muddle.
You’ll have around 10-15M to exist as Muddle, and you’ll be let into the Nine Mortal Ways dojo with very little effort. You’ve got a limited time to work with, and there are a few things you need to do while inside.
Enter the dojo for the next step of unlocking Rope Dart weapon skills in Where Winds Meet. You’ll find that you need a Token before you enter the training area with everyone else. You can go to your left and speak to Zhong Yong for a clue about your Senior Brother. He’s in the kitchen waiting for you, which is opposite from Zhong Yong. There are only two doors you can enter in this part of the base.

Go speak to Tiancai, enter Wind Sense, and ask for his Token. He’ll give it to you gladly, and you can enter the main dojo area. Go stand where the quest marker is, and you’ll be told to go pick up your Dart, which is in the room straight ahead, with a quest marker. Speak to Elder Tian, and he’ll give you your weapon.

From there, just go to the other soldiers, stand on the blue icon, and pass the Skill Theft check by entering Wind Sense. You’ll need to reach 50 points, within 1:30. Hitting a button when a grey circle is on screen loses concentration, so avoid doing that. Just be diligent, and hit the button when a gold circle pops up.
You’ll also get combo moves where the gold circle pops up a few times in a row. It’s really easy to wrap up. When you’ve unlocked Rope Dart, head to the backyard area of the base, by jumping over the wall from outside. You’ll need to ditch your disguise first, though.

Ni Laoshan will ask you a few questions, and ultimately will try to recruit you to the Nine Mortal Ways. He appreciated that you were willing to do whatever it took to learn their skill, and was impressed by it. This completes The Art of Skill Theft, and now you have Rope Dart weapon skills in Where Winds Meet.
What weapon skills do Rope Dart weapons use in Where Winds Meet?
Rope Dart is a really interesting weapon in Where Winds Meet. While charging the weapon, you receive temporary buffs, and when you unleash it, you deal increased damage for a limited time. You can use your skills to build Tokens of Gratitude, which let you have coordinated Rat Attacks, and also apply Tokens of Vendetta to your enemies. That will increase the rat’s damage overall. It’s a sort of complex weapon, but it’s a lot of fun.

Weapon Skills for Rope Dart
- Light Attack: A four-hit combo with the Rope Dart
- Alternate: Charging Stance (Rodent’s Resilience): Charge to consume Endurance and Unleash the Sword forward. Targets hit are controlled temporarily. Sword damage increases by 20% with each hit, up to a maximum of 50%. Higher charge levels increase this damage.
- Bladebound Thread: Throw the rope dart forward and if it hits a boss, you get pulled to them. Otherwise, you pull them to you. Press again within 2.5s to execute a kick combo, that knocks the target down. Targets hit receive a Vendetta Token. When the rat attacks a target with Vendetta Token, it deals 50% more damage and grants a small amount of Token of Gratitude.
- Rodent Rampage: Every Token of Gratitude spent summons a Rat to make a coordinated attack. When you cast a Light Attack, the rat pops out of the ground and attacks. This effect lasts 10s and remains even if you switch weapons.
- Dual-Weapon Skill: Rope Dart - Conversion: Switches to Rope Dart and attacks
