One can tame a horse in Where Winds Meet; the mechanic is one of those early open-world surprises the game doesn’t explain much, yet it immediately helps with traversal. Horses roam freely across the landscape, but they won’t let you hop on unless you approach them the right way.
The game treats taming as a small stealth-and-timing challenge, and once you understand the process, catching your first mount becomes quick and simple. Here is how you can tame a horse in Where Winds Meet.
How do you tame a horse in Where Winds Meet
When you spot a wild horse in the wilderness of Jianghu, the first thing you need to do is crouch. Approaching normally will almost always startle them. Once you're close enough from behind, an on-screen Force Capture prompt appears, which drops you straight into the taming sequence.

During the minigame:
- A horse icon moves toward a marked target area.
- Press the correct W, A, S, or D (or your controller equivalent) key when the icon hits the target.
A few clean inputs are usually enough to calm the horse and claim it. After you tame a horse in Where Winds Meet, you can check its traits immediately.
Every horse has its own blend of strengths and drawbacks, so taming several and comparing them becomes part of the fun. Successfully taming your mount also unlocks the Master Tamer achievement.
Other ways to get a horse in Where Winds Meet
One can tame a horse in Where Winds Meet and feel satisfied, but it isn’t the only way. The game gives you different ways to acquire a mount:
1) Steal an NPC’s horse
If you ever see an NPC riding through a road or village, you can sprint up and trigger the Snatch Horse prompt. You’ll rip them right off the saddle and take their horse instantly.
The downside? That NPC will get hostile and attack. So either be prepared to fight or have a clean escape route planned.
2) Buy one from the shop
The in-game shop also sells horses and other mounts. Some cost in-game currency, while others may require real-money purchases. It’s the easiest option if you don’t feel like sneaking or stealing.
