Right after the intro and the archery challenge, you’ll meet the famous bear who teaches you Tai Chi. But the real value is the honey he’s after. Nearby, a man is trapped under rubble. Free him, talk to him, and this NPC becomes your passive ability trainer.
His currency? Oddities, the little environmental activities and curiosities you pick up as you explore. The first item he wants is that honey. Grab it from the tree, bring it back, and this unlocks your first major choice: You must pick one weapon, permanently.
It’s a one-time decision with no reversal later. Since you already have the longsword and spear, the smart early pick is one of the weapons you wouldn’t otherwise get until much later:
- Thundercry Blade (great for tanking)
- Vernal Umbrella (incredibly strong and wipes camps with ease)
For early dominance, the Vernal Umbrella is the clear standout. Its ranged pressure and AOE options let you melt packs without using resources, which is perfect while you’re still exploring the early story zones.
2) Unlock Meridian Touch

This one shows up shockingly early, and it’s essential because many puzzles, dungeons, and hidden combat encounters literally can’t be completed without it. You can unlock Meridian Touch by finishing Jianghu Legacy side story in Qinghe. Reach out to Yan Qiren's place at Moonveil Mountain. You’ll find him (frozen) among stone statues.
Approach him, try the ability, and then use it to immobilize him. Once the prompt completes, you officially have Meridian Touch and can slot it into your Mystic Skill bar. This alone opens up a ton of exploration and makes you overpowered early in Where Winds Meet.
3) Get Touch of Death

To get the Touch of Death skill, you must complete the Echoes of Old Battles side story. Solve the fire puzzle (signposts from players usually help), smash the ground, and drop into a hidden dungeon. At the end, you’ll find the final puzzle. Complete it, open the chest, and you’ll obtain it.
You won’t see it in a skill slot because it’s always active. It lets you:
- One-shot unaware enemies
- Clear stealth dungeons safely
- Grab martial arts early by assassinating guards blocking secret rooms
You’ll use this constantly for the next few unlocks.
4) Get Celestial Seize

This Mystic Skill appears early during the Blissful Retreat questline. When you reach Heaven’s Pier, talk to the drunk villagers, then to Qiu Yuehai. He teaches you Celestial Seize so you can steal Nullifying Pills from the scammer Hu Wei. Once learned, this skill lets you:
- Pickpocket NPCs
- Steal items at range
- Pull distant loot from chests
- Disarm enemies mid-fight
It is one of the skills that will make you overpowered early in Where Winds Meet. It also becomes essential for dungeons where the treasure is guarded by elites you don’t want to alert.
5) Unlock the first flight ability

Before full flying unlocks, you’ll get the early Lightness component. Story progression takes you to a lake with a fisherman who gives you a jumping puzzle. Talk to him twice (not once), or you’ll waste time jumping without activating it.
The magnet-like yellow text helps you land on barrels, and at the boat at the end you’ll find the note that grants your first flight stage. It’s not a full traversal yet, but it’s the prerequisite you’ll need later.
6) Hit Level 15 and complete your first breakthrough
If you’ve been exploring, solving puzzles, and grabbing oddities, you’ll naturally hit the early level cap of 15. Breakthroughs matter because the first completed breakthrough gives you your first Dragon Key.
Dragon Keys unlock the restricted sanctums that hold weapon martial arts and secret treasures.
7) Use your first Dragon Key to unlock Infernal Twinblades

Open your weapon menu and scroll to any locked weapon to see where its martial art is located. For Infernal Twinblades, you must go to Midnight Mercy Sanctum, located in the southern part of Qinghe Moonveil Mountain. Use your Dragon Key on the pedestal, go invisible automatically, and with Touch of Death and Celestial Seize, you can clear guards and loot safely.
Climb, sneak, and use ranged stealing when needed, and eventually you’ll reach the Master. Observe him, follow all prompts, and you now have Dual Blades and an epic set dropped from a chest inside. That’s your first true high-DPS option.
8) Unlock invisibility and your second early Dragon Key

At Level 8 or later, you must reach southeast of Moonveil Peak and perform the Skill theft near the Bell tower. Climb using wall runs and triple jumps, talk to Qiu Yuehai, and after that, you must observe the other guy from a distance to learn the technique (Skill Theft). The Invisibility (Veil of Stillness) is yours, and it is one of the strongest utility skills, which will make you overpowered early in Where Winds Meet.
It lets you infiltrate sanctums or assassinate lone guards effortlessly. Once the conversation ends, head back to Yuehai and the other guy, and you’re rewarded with your second Dragon Key.
9) Use the second Dragon Key to get the Panacea Fan

You have three ways to get the Panacea Fan in the game. Get it as a reward from Qi Sheng in the initial stages of the game, observe Fan Master in Qinghe or join the Silver Needle Sect.
If you choose to observe Fan Master, watch her moves and unlock the Martial Arts. Now you have:
- A ranged weapon
- Reliable healing
- Passive healing boosts
- Stealth assassinations
- Early flight
- Touch of Death
- Two Dragon Keys already burned efficiently
You’re now way ahead of the curve and pretty overpowered early in Where Winds Meet.
10) Upgrade your healing flask to get overpowered early in Where Winds Meet
If you prefer not to use the Fan for healing, you can still boost your flask. Head to the Evercare Clinic southwest of Blissful Retreat. Talk to the healer (Yao Yaoyao) and trade Medicinal Tales, which come from story quests, strongholds, world bosses, and more.
