How to deal with rats in ARC Raiders

Rats in ARC Raiders are a niche group of players who sabotage other gamers by planting mines and traps inside lifts and extraction zones. More often than not, these sorts of players stay hidden until you reach the exit points of a map, and then attack you when you are not paying attention to your surroundings. Although PvP is a crucial aspect of the game, it is natural to let your guard down when you are at the final stretch, trying to get back to Speranza. This is when the rats strike and make an entire match's worth of gameplay go to waste.

How to counter rats in ARC Raiders

Different maps in ARC Raiders have unique extraction lifts and exit points. For this reason, there is no straightforward strategy allowing you to consistently counter rats. However, there are a few simple practices that you can implement in each run to avoid getting backstabbed.

1) Keep Lure Grenades/Snitch Scanners in your loadout

Lure Grenades/Snitch Scanners can be utilised to lure/call in ARCs. This comes in handy when you are being attacked by rats in ARC Raiders and need to divert their attention.

Do note that the effectiveness of Lure Grenades and Snitch Scanners depends on your positioning and movement skills. Before using these throwables, make sure that you have managed to bait the rats out in the open.

In addition to these throwables, you can also lure minibosses if any are patrolling around the extraction points you intend to use. Be it a Rocketeer, Leaper or any other similar ARC, upon facing rats, you should always shoot at the minibosses and lure them close to the extraction lift.

This discourages the rats from taking direct fights with you and forces them to either confront the ARC or extract quickly. In any case, you can try heading to a different spawn location or just use the second method mentioned below to safely extract.

2) Bring a Raider Hatch Key

This is one of the easier ways to avoid rats in ARC Raiders. In case you were following the first method and encountered rats near an exit, the easiest way to deal with them is luring ARCs to that position and then swiftly heading towards any Raiders Hatches. Since very few players exit using Hatch keys, rats tend to prefer extration lifts.

Raider Hatch keys also come in handy when you are escaping hostile Raiders and ARCs and simply want to secure your loot, especially when encumbered with numerous heavy items.

3) Be patient and survey the extraction zone

Another simple way to deal with rats in ARC Raiders comes down to the amount of time you have before the end-match missile hits. Before extration, take a few minutes to stealthily survey the extraction lift and all its rat spots. These are the corners that can provide a tactical advantage with the third-person perspective peeks.

If you have basic grenades and suspect rats to be hiding somewhere, throw grenades in the suspected areas and be ready for the rats to move out of cover. Utilise this opportunity to open fire and take them down.

Do note that this method works best in trios, while the first two methods are viable even during solo runs.
