However, two specific chapters contain actual remembrance quests with tasks you must complete to get the rewards. Moving forward through the chapters occurs naturally as you participate in expeditions and finish the particular goals the game sets for you.

Unlocking the early chapters

  • Chapter 1 unlocks automatically once Scholar is available as a playable Nightfarer.

First Remembrance quest: Search the underground chamber below the marsh

  • Queue into an expedition against the Balancers. Make sure there is no Shifting Earth Event active.
  • The underground chamber spawns randomly but will always be marked by an objective indicator once you load into the expedition.
  • Descend into the chamber and move carefully. Before reaching the boss of this point of interest, keep an eye out for an opening on the right-hand side.
  • Follow that path deeper until you reach a table holding the Vassal’s Journal. Interact with it to collect the entry.
  • Finish the expedition normally and return to the Roundtable Hold.

Concluding the first Remembrance

  • Head to the Chapel and speak with the Undertaker.
  • After a short moment, the Iron Menial will arrive. Speak to him as well.
  • Read the Vassal’s Journal placed on the desk nearby.
  • Once the journal has been read, speak to the Undertaker again to formally conclude the first Remembrance quest.

Completing this chapter rewards you with Scholar’s Chalice, which grants one Red, one Blue, and one Universal relic slot.

Mid-quest progression

Chapter 4 unlocks after the first Scholar's Remembrance in Elden Ring Nightreign. The chapter requires you to run expeditions and collect Memory Fragments. There’s no unique mission here; continue playing expeditions as usual.

Once Chapter 4 is complete, the second remembrance mission becomes available.

Second Remembrance quest: Investigate the Great Hollow

  • Enter the Great Hollow and begin pushing upward through the structure, defeating enemies along the way. Clearing them early reduces pressure later.
  • Climb the hanging rock formations and move through a hole in the wall to reach a sealed door. As you approach it, you’ll hear activity that needs investigating.
  • Backtrack immediately and defeat the three Marauders that appear behind you.
  • Return to the previously sealed door.
  • Interact with and exhaust every available object in the area. Once all interactions are complete, the second Remembrance quest will finish automatically.

Completing this quest rewards you with the Cleansing Tear relic, which uplifts Scholar’s Ultimate Art damage-over-time, improves Art gauge gain on enemy defeats, and increases affinity-based damage negation.
