Genshin Impact’s Luna III (6.2) update has officially gone live today and with it came Durin’s long-awaited debut as a playable character. HoYoverse already revealed the phase-wise lineup during the Special Program livestream, but many players are once again rethinking who to pull for.
This is mostly because the new Hexerei Rite passive for new and old characters might end up changing Genshin Impact's meta more than expected. Here's a rundown of every featured character during this version and whether they’re worth spending your pulls on.
Note: The following information is based on community discussions and the author's analysis. Readers are advised to take it with a grain of salt.

Breakdown of all the characters you can pull for during Genshin Impact Luna III
Phase 1 banner - Durin and Venti

1. Durin (Situational)
Pull if: you need a main Pyro DPS or want to play new Hexerei characters.
Skip if: you already have Mavuika, Arlecchino, or a fully-built Xiangling at C6.
Durin is the latest 5-star Pyro DPS character that can be used in both on-field and off-field positions in Genshin Impact. He also offers steady Pyro application on his burst that’s close to Xiangling’s Pyronado, but he’s only worth pulling for if you don’t have other strong Pyro DPS units like Mavuika or Arlecchino.
As a standalone unit, Durin has decent damage scaling, and his overall kit fits well with a variety of team configurations, especially if you team him up with characters under Hexerei Rite. However, his true potential is likely going to be realized in the future when additional characters are released that utilize this passive (for example Alice and Nicole).
2. Venti (Not recommended)
Pull if: you love this character, like his utility in crowd control, or want a Swirl support
Skip if: you already have him at C0, prefer saving for other meta or future characters
Venti is rerunning alongside Durin in Phase 1 and is also under the Hexerei Rite passive now in Genshin Impact. He is also getting a new signature 5-star bow called "The Daybreak Chronicle," which is running alongside Durin's signature weapon. Despite the buffs added under this passive, he's still not a must-have compared to other characters, as these buffs only help him come into a sub-DPS role.
Additionally, Venti primarily works best as a Swirl support across many meta and non-meta teams since his release in patch 1.0. Even in the endgame, he only shines if there are smaller enemies that can be grouped together with his burst.

3. 4-Star characters during Phase 1 (Recommended for early-game)
The 4-star roster for this phase includes Faruzan, Bennett, and the newest addition, Jahoda. All three are good picks, but Jahoda and Faruzan only feel worth building once you unlock their C6. This is because their full utility is locked behind specific team setups like Faruzan working best with an Anemo DPS and Jahoda for Lunar reactions team.
Phase 2 banner - Varesa and Xilonen

1. Varesa (Situational pull)
Pull if: you want a good and F2p-friendly Electro DPS, or if you like the character.
Skip if: you are saving for future characters or other good meta characters.
Varesa is a 5-star Electro DPS who's very much F2P-friendly, especially for early-game players in Genshin Impact. She's good even in endgame modes as of now, but because she's Electro, her damage scaling isn't the best when compared to DPS from other elements. In the end, she's a character who's viable to carry through all types of content if you invest in her.
2. Xilonen (Most recommended)
Pull if: you want a good overall meta support or you want to clear endgame content easily
Skip if: you don't like the character or need any support characters, saving for future units.
Xilonen is a 5-star Geo support who works with every element (excluding Anemo and Geo) characters, and is the best choice to pull for meta-wise this patch. Her ability to shred up to two elemental resistances with her skill is extremely powerful, outlasting even Venti’s Swirl shred.
She works as an universal unit, fitting into nearly every team, and massively boosting the damage of DPS units. Highly recommended for all players, especially those who need strong support for Spiral Abyss in Genshin Impact.
Genshin Impact’s Luna III lineup consists of pretty decent characters, but your priorities should really depend on what your account actually needs. Durin helps if you’re missing a strong Pyro DPS, Venti and Varesa are decent options, while Xilonen easily stands out as the best choice in this patch. In the end, it's your choice as the player and pull the characters you actually want to play regardless of meta.
