In this article, we will explore the potential changes players can expect from the matchmaking update in Apex Legends. Read below to know more.

All potential matchmaking changes coming in Apex Legends

Apex Legends has had a matchmaking problem since its birth. Being a battle royale title, it is naturally hard to create lobbies that are fair to the majority of the population queuing up for the game. Now, while that might generally be something that players can forgive in a casual playlist, it simply does not cut it when the game features an intrinsic rank system with numerous divisions to help segregate competitive players in their respective ranks.

Till recent times, we've had the matchmaking model pool the highest level of players, such as from Predator, Masters rank, and pool up lobbies that are filled with low elo players from Platinum and Diamond. The gameplay experience in such lobbies is simply poor for players across both spectrums, as the higher-elo players run down the lower-elo ones before they even have a chance to put up a fight.

Moving forward, the information released by @HYPERMYSTx indicates that the developers plan to implement hard limits to make matchmaking as fair as possible. Players can expect longer queue times in higher-elo lobbies, where the matchmaker will prioritize creating a lobby filled with players of the same rank and similar skill.

The matchmaker will further put a stop to players in the Masters rank and above from matching up with players in Platinum and below. Overall, players can expect a more skill-oriented matchmaking in the competitive lobby, enhancing the gameplay experience of the community as a whole.
