In the next Assassin's Creed game, titled Hexe, Ubisoft should heavily focus on features that make the franchise what it is. While the recent entries like Mirage and Shadows have done well, they swayed too much from the gameplay core of stealth, parkour, and combat. Moreover, they also struggled with a fair share of issues of their own.

With AC Hexe slated for release next and leaks suggesting that a Black Flag remake and Project Stardust are in development as well, this article lists seven features that Ubisoft should prioritize for the next Assassin's Creed title.

7 features the next Assassin's Creed title should prioritize

A true stealth-first approach

Stealth has been an integral part of the Assassin's Creed franchise and not just an alternate gameplay strategy. In AC Shadows, the enemy AI often fails to pursue players effectively, and you can easily pass by them by simply escaping to rooftops and such. This makes many stealth tools and abilities quite pointless.

As for AC Mirage, while the title did focus on the stealth mechanic, it wasn't as well done as the older games. A true return to the stealth-focused approach in the next title would definitely be well-received by the fans.

Improved parkour and navigation

Parkour should feel like a signature mechanic again in the next AC title, as it has been in the early titles of the franchise. In AC Mirage and Shadows, the developer did listen to the fans and made improvements, such as the addition of manual jump. The upcoming game should ideally include these features from the get-go while further improving upon them.

Better enemy AI

Enemy AI in Mirage and Shadows has been heavily criticized due to how easy it is to manipulate them. They have a predictable reaction and are also unable to follow you onto rooftops. This undermines both stealth and combat tension, since players can lose pursuers with minimal effort. As such, a future entry should overhaul how enemies react to the players.

A focused open-world

AC Shadows has demonstrated how a huge map and mandatory side content aren't always a good thing. The recent games have offered numerous side missions and other activities to keep players engaged instead of providing more meaningful content. Hence, fans are sure to appreciate it if Ubisoft tones down on the filler content and focuses more heavily on the main story.

Return to the Assassin-Templar conflict

Critics of Assassin's Creed Shadows often mention that the overly long story struggles to fully realize its protagonists in the new setting. Players often feel disconnected from the main cast, with motivations boiled down to vague ideals. The next Assassin’s Creed should return to the Assassin-Templar conflict with a protagonist that stays true to the franchise's ethos.

Meaningful tools

In AC Mirage and other recent entries, progression systems and tool upgrades have felt somewhat shallow or cosmetic. While they exist to provide you with meaningful upgrades, they fail to significantly alter how you approach missions. Ubisoft should aim to develop in-game tools that can effectively unlock distinct playstyles and builds.

Replayable endgame content

Many players burn through the main story quite quickly, only to realize that there isn't much to do afterward. In the recent Assassin's Creed titles, there is little reason to keep playing after finishing the main campaign beyond repetitive contracts and side activities.

Even with post-launch updates and DLC content, criticism often centers on how the endgame simply boils down to just performing assassinations. A robust endgame mode with challenging combat can be a nice new feature to improve the new game's replayability.
